Enjoy!
If something is unclear please ask me in comments.

Now VIDEO TUTORIAL is available as well: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkfAo9…

Hint on stuff: says that beading wire of 24-26 gauge is perfect for wiring too (Dollzone hands were wired).

Well, the thickness of your wire depends on the width of inner channels of your doll's jointed hands, considering the string elastic that is already there. I can't say what gauge it should be...

I got a very quick question. Using this technique for the fingers, could the doll obtain finger movements that a human being could?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to MaidenInTheMist [2014-02-26 19:04:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but some gestures are restricted with hands construction itself. But the hands are much much more posable with the help of wiring.

Hi,
Thank you for the tutorial, it looked very interesting, so I just tried it.
Adding my own two cents:
I tried to wire Dikadoll 1/4 jointed hands. For the record, they are a pain.
They have the same rotating finger dilema than the big ones, but very very narrow string channels that are nearly compleatly filled up with the strings themselves.
I used the coper wire described above, but only three of the small strings bound together, the ends sealed with transparent nailpolish to hold them together.
I used the soom hand method as goos as was possible, becuase the Dikadoll methos ... well I was not able to. Perhaps someone with steadier fingers and more patience will be.
Also the three little wires are a bit to thin to really hold tight. but they give some more stability than without. Could be that if you used five or six of the little wires together, it would hold better. I don't think it possible to get more through the string channnels, because they are filled up with 4 stings pro finger.

None the less thanks for the idea, perhaps I will find the patience to rewire the hands with more sturdy material.
The tutorial is very well explained. Great job^^.

Thank you for the valuable info! Never tried to restring 1/4 jointed hands - well, actually never saw them in person... So I could only imagine how hard this task may be.
Possible solution is to restring the hands completely using a beading silicone cord: it's much thinner than the usual strings, and it's sleak, so the wire could slip through the channels more easy. Those very thin wires you're tlking about are a pain to operate themselves

LuciusSikilmituile In reply to scargeear [2014-01-02 11:09:14 +0000 UTC]

The idea of restringing them makes me shudder. But perhaps someday I try it. I'll keep in mind that beading string for the future.
Just for reference: Dikadoll normal pink does not match the DolfamilyH normal skin, neither the Doc normal skin.
But with some blushing they can look acceptable.

scargeear In reply to MitsukoElric [2013-10-13 19:13:26 +0000 UTC]

It should work for any jointed hands, though the method would depend on the hands construction. I never saw Doll Leaves jointed hands  in person but from the photos they look similar to Dollzone jointed hands.

Try search on eBay.

Plenty of 1/3 and 1/4: stores.ebay.com/DollsSinging/_...

My DZ hands didn't match my boy, and so I sold them to get a hopefully matching pair from Illusion Spirit. They seem to have the same resin hook as the Dika Doll hands, but I've only seen photos. :I

I won't know until I get the hands, but do you know how well the resin hooks hold up? I was thinking of taking them off and modding the ball joint to have a slot for an s-hook instead. (much like the DZ hands)

I heard the hooks tend to break...so I though perhaps modifying the joints would be better.

I'm so sorry DZ hands didn't work, it's so tiresome to buy, to wait, to sell again((
I can't tell you how a certain pair of resin hooks would behave... There are a cases of breakage, but there are a similar cases with metal hinges too. I have the experience with Soom and Dream Realm resin hooks in the feet only, and they are OK. BNut if you feel that those hooks could be too weak it's wise to mod them and to insert hinges.

Ok! Yeah I wasn't sure... so I thought I'd ask you since you seem to have more experience in the bjd hobby. (plus you have very good tutorials on nearly everything I've needed to know!)

I am hoping these new hands will match, and that they won't need too much work. I'm dying to play with jointed hands again. I was spoiled with having them. LOL!

It was difficult though as they were much smaller hands. Pose like a boss though!
