Description Happy Houseplant Appreciation Day! (January 10th!) Give some love to your houseplants today! Here are some succulents we have. I'm not entirely sure what species they are, but they're very common in stores, and hardy too. Some of the older ones we have have really gotten quite large since planting them in the ground, to the point where they require regular trimming. Even if the gardener's lawnmower accidentally runs over them, it barely makes a dent in the thick "bushes" they've formed in the front of our house. How they have grown in such a relatively short time! Perfect for the hot, dry, desert weather here!

What kind of houseplants do you guys have, if any? Do you have a favorite?

These are very beautiful, All in the lover row are species of Echeveria, a bit unsure about it the others though. There are many kinds of echeveria species but they all hail from semi-arid areas in Central America. Many found in stores are hybrids aswell, so the ones at the top may be hybrid echeverias or lesser known species. I was thinking about living rocks for both edges of the top row, but they seem too big to belong there.
I got a pretty large echeveria plant myself. ^^

Thank you for the information! It's nice knowing what these guys are now haha! I guess we have a couple large echeveria in our backyard (about the size of a large watermelon) and our chickens really like to eat it! Poor things looked like a lawn mower went over them after our Rhode Island Reds got to them! I didn't realize that many of the store ones are hybrids, but that does make sense. We actually did have some of the living rock ones before (I called them butt plants XD), though unfortunately we had trouble keeping those alive. Will you be adding any more succulents to your collection of plants any time soon?

Oh man, it's such a shame when your pets discover that the plants you grow are tasty. XD

The reason you probably had issues growing living rocks is that they're from the southern hemisphere, which means that they have switched growing cycles. They are genetically programmed to want to grow during the "winter" in the northern hemisphere, and wants to go into dormancy during the northern "summer", which makes them very hard to grow. If they recieve too much water during their dormancy they will rot, and if they don't recieve enough sunlight during their growing season they will eventually waste away.
Hmm... I do have several succulents already, I have a small barrel cactus, two large puyas, a "snake" cactus, four desert roses, two ponytail palms, two pithayas and another succulet and cactus of unknown species so far (the two last one were from a mix). I think I'm pretty pleased with my succulent collection already, haha. ^^
How about you?

That's very cool to know, and that's pretty neat to see how their growing cycles work! Thanks for sharing! Snake cactus are fun to see, especiailly in a bunch, and puyas are beautiful when they flower! Nice succulent collection! For me, at the moment I'm not too sure what I have, aside from probably a bunch of hybrids (as you helped identify them! ) and aloe, but I know one thing they are for sure- tasty to my chickens! XD

No probs, I'm glad you liked the info.

Thanks! I didn't think they would like it either since it doesn't seem terribly tasty (I know for sure Mochi couldn't care for them and finds their juices really bitter!), but there they are, grazing away and ripping off leaves to eat like a buffet! XD

Haha, that's actually pretty awesome. Had no idea they loved it so much. XD
A bit sad for your succulents though.

What are these! I have never viewed such wondrous plants before in my life! Ever! I like their colors. They look a bit purp purp and how it blends with the greens actually is quite nice. Too bad I can't have any houseplants, so I don't have a favorite. I would pick one but I don't have a bucket to protect from thine deadly miasma.

You have never seen any of these before! Ever! And the miasma is not deadly, but what gives them the lovely purp purps as it blends with the greens! It is the beginning of a rainbow! Instead, you would need a bucket to protect them from thine global colding miasma! What a sparkle vampire!
