When you copy the texture into the overlay, do you copy it over the entire layer? Or is it only to fill a selected area? I'm still a novice with this program

well you can do both ^^ it's up to you and the effect that you want to have. The easier way to find it out is to try yourself :3

Oh yay .,.
I'm curious about the layers and why you use those particular ones for shading, lighting and atmosphere as opposed to using oh say..overlay for shadows or whatever.
I haven't been able to educate myself on the layer types and their purpose, basically.

Well you just have to test. This "tutorial" is for basic image without special atmosphere or such. But sometimes for a colored shading or ambiance I use overlay for shading.
I even sometime use a normal layer or a multiply layer.
The only rule is : test and see if you like.
The easier way is to do the shading or lights and switch the type of layer to understand their working

Well, have a tablet. Pressure is per default in this program.
If you have a tablet but no pressure, maybe your pilot is not updated ^^

there is a menu at the top of the layer thing and you can choose the type.

You can choose the type of layer, when you create one. Like in ALL drawing software.. I don't see what is complicated.

You don't have a good version of sai so. You need the newest version done.
