Description

Developed in the 3040's as a prototype design that could have replaced the Mist Lynx aka Koshi, the Manul, named after a small predatory Terran cat was a rare foray by Clan Smoke Jaguar into quad mech design. Although it couldn't jump, the Mech could run slightly faster than the Mist Lynx, the 20-ton quad didn't proceed beyond the prototype stage and lost out to the Arctic Cheetah aka Hankyu as the replacement for the Mist Lynx.

Largely forgotten at the time of REVIVAL, the Manul would see a second lease of life in the aftermath of the battles of Tukayyid and Luthien which saw the Smoke Jaguar's touman greatly reduced following heavy casualties. With Khan Lincoln Osis in a coma, Khan Brandon Howell turned his efforts to rebuilding the shattered touman, and one of the mech's that he turned to was a dusty prototype quad-mech that was able to start production now.

The Smoke Jaguar's usually took what they needed off other Clans in Trials, and lacked the industrial capacity to build many Mechs, but the Manul was ready to go and quickly authorised for production.

Although it took time to get use to the Manul's curious and lolloping gait, especially when at full speed, Warriors came to approve of the little Mech that had a big bite. Both Clan Warriors and Inner Sphere forces also referred to the Mech by its unofficial name of Corgi.
