Description Length - 715 meters
Displacement - 780,000 tonnes
Crew Compliment - 280

Built on the same hull as the unsuccessful Quixote class frigate the Volga transport was a cheap, easily built work horse that was built in civilian shipyards rather than military ones.Β  Although armed and armoured like a warship the Volga was slow, cumbersome and had a poor heat dissipation system that barely let it use half its armament.Β  Still despite this they were built in their hundreds and served as a reliable if cumbersome transport for equipment and Mechs, their four dropship capacity making them viable assault transports as well.

Here you can see the Clan Hells Horses Ship (CHH) Mount Olympus awaiting her dropships arrival before she jumps to another system.

Love these designs, love the way the ships look like in battletech/mechwarrior. Would love see some of these ships in halo

Man, I know that most of the Warships were created before the actual construction rules were... but god dang. This thing has a 213,517 ton cargo bay. It's just absurd no one ever refit them to reduce that space by 1000 tons to add another 1000 heat sinks. Literally less than a half a percent cargo capacity lost to effectively double the number of weapons it can fire. It's too sensible not to do. Aaaaagh >.<

Yeah, if it was within my power I'dre-do the ships, make them not have quite so absurd cargo spaces, enhanced point defences etc.Β  But I can't, but the best thing I could do was commission these ships

I hear ya. They don't need to be Leviathan II/III levels of optimized, but some common sense would be nice. Not everything is going to be going on multi-year patrols between visits to friendly ports for resupply, SLDF :V Not everything needs 100,000+ tons of cargo space.

Oh indeed!Β  The Lev 3 is a big bowl of boiling hot cheese dumped on your screaming unprepared face.Β  And nothing should be that optimized Β  But, yeah, drop the cargo space a bit, increase armour, firepower and cooling and give SLDF ships decent fuel tanks too!Β  As well as marine compliments etc.

Mmhmm, that's the ticket. Again, I understand that the ships were made before construction rules were. But I wish once they'd made the construction rules, they had re-built the ships according to them so that they made more sense, and said "Hey these are now the canon versions". 50k tons of cargo, like the Black Lion? Okay, I can buy that for a patrol ship, especially one that uses ammo-consuming weapons that would reasonably be carrying additional ammo not shown in the bays. But make sure that the ship's armor is maxed out for the amount it's tonnage and SI allow, make sure it has enough heat sinks. Even just little tweaks like that help. Heck, say that the Star League built all their ships to have 1st class quarters for all personnel, thatll eat up a bit more tonnage too and show the luxuries that the nation was renowned for.

Or heck, when you're designing your construction rules... make naval weapons heavier so that there's less tonnage left over once you account for them. If they all weighed 3-5x as much I bet that would go a long way to reducing those cargo bays in size, and explain why so many of them aren't as heavily armed- because with those weights instead of what we got, you can't easily shove in a buttload of weapons.

Yeah the whole thing really needs a re-do, either fill out the tonnage with other things, or ligthen them.

Thank you The canon art for the Volga is god damn aweful, I have no idea why they made it a Bussard Ramjet :s Β And if you wanna use this one, go for it!

Still got more to come, up next is the Fredasa and Whirlwind, then it'll be the Lola III and Aegis and finally the Cameron and McKnenna Β

Oh now those 2 EXCITE ME!!! I have a long career of loving the Fredasa, and I think the Whirlwind is excellently designed!

With the Freddy it will keep the same kind of flat, double pronged look but have some engines on her as well as a grav deck. the Whirlwind will keep her ram bow but she's gonna hopefully look a bit chunking and slab sided, she's an older design and was probably built before they could easily make large hull sections in sweeping curves that we see later.

That's going to oddly dove-tail with some of the designs I have created, though I liked both ships they way they were, they just needed some scaling and skin issues fixed. And the Freddy does need engines and drop ports more easily seen. Oh, that's one thing about the Volga -Β center in the sloped part leading to the "Thorax", those are drop ports, right?

Yes the two large circles leading up to the top of her back are drop ship collars Β  And re the Freddy and Whirlwind, Plog will do the sketches when he can, he's pretty damn good, usually done in a few weeks.
