This is page 2 of Paul and I's tribute to Sarah Jane Smith.

Paul says: Story, colors, and lettering by me. Pencils and inks by my talented bud and collaborator Shawn Van Briesen .

Fun footnote to this page- David Van Zandt, our story's lead character (who's so ominously staring down at Sarah's picture) is modeled on Shawn. This "casting" was totally my idea- it wasn't some vain notion on Shawn's part. I knew that Shawn was an actor, and he had the right look for the character, so I thought it'd lend a nice reality to Van Zandt if Shawn used himself as the model.

And now on a less cheerful note- this is the first page we've posted since the news of the sad loss of Caroline John broke. It's an unfortunate coincidence that Lis Sladen died when we were a few pages into our Nick Courtney tribute comic. So please don't ever say "How bout a Liz Shaw comic?" I'm not superstitious, but I don't want a coincidence to become a pattern.

Liz Shaw was one of the great underrated companions, though. She was arguably the most "grown up" companion ever. She had a very dry, intelligent sort of humor that played great off of Jon Pertwee, and it's a shame they only had one season together. If you've never seen one of her stories, watch INFERNO sometime and be amazed. Or SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE. Or THE SILURIANS. Four stories and three were out-and-out classics. That's a pretty great track record.
