Description
Sorry for the big combined imageThis is a new take on my 'Heavy Rifle' model that I posted some time ago.
The old one was for an intermediate modeling class under time constraint. This one is post advanced modeling classes, and there are no time constraints, hence much more life to it.
Itβs still in progress, so feel free to crit it up and I'll make the needed fixes.
*Update*
Got most of the equip done. I have iron sights, dot sights, scope, horizontal grips, vertical grip, (semi)silencer, flash light, and IR laser. I can only think of top and bottom mounted grenade launchers being left to do, any other ideas?
I also got the sniper variant done. The top front quarter is swapped out, the sniper variant drops the rails for an integrated scope, night vision, infra red, targeting laser, and audio surveillance. All capable of output to external devices.
Fixing the tampon bullets is in the agenda. Other than all that this project is coming to a close. woot.

They were supposed to be an optics guard, but I'm dropping them in future models as they are too much of a hindrance.
Glad you like it, and thanks for the fav.

Ah, yeah I thought the same thing about them being a hinderance. Well good work, and you're welcome ^ ^

move the bolt back!!!! the one problem with so many designs here on devart, you must center the bolt over the mag well or you cant fire the gun. oh for all its beauty i cant stop thinking about that one little slot and bolt handle. a very nice gun in any case, might you think about something a little less powerful say a 30-06 or something like that, you would waist so much powder with a 50 bmg and tell everyone in the area exactly were you are by the muzzle flash. none the less i love the grip design.

This one being a bullpup, uses a system similar to the FN2000, the cocking lever is extended fore ward, and the ejection port gets the same treatment on the other side.
I'll agree with you in that this design needs revising though, I can do a lot of things better now. But yea, the FN2000, unique take on cocking/ejection. Even the m16/m4 which is a widespread weapon, has a peculiar cocking action.
Use of a diff bullet is under investigation

you should look at the RFB rifle, here's a good link

its a good sit for weapons info and stuff.

Yea I've been there before, maybe even seen that rifle, but didn't recognize some nice traits. The action on it is about the shortest I've seen in a bullpup, which gives me confidence in further compacting my design.
Thanks for the link.

ah, i just couldn't see any ejection port. i still like the gun though, especially with that grip.

Yea, grips are fun, and right now I'm doing a painting of it with some nice updates. On the right, 3rd picture down, you get a good view of the ejection tubes end.

Wow! what program did you use to do all of that? And is there a tutorial manual or vid that i can get a hold of to try and turn out something close to that amazing?

I used Maya. 3D programs are a little harder to pick up compared to a painting one, so I have no idea where to send you.
But making something like this is pretty basic for 3D, so if you pick it up, have fun

Thats a pretty good model, I may have seen it around.
Yea it can fire auto, but that'd empty mags fast. I need to redesign this one though, it has problems and I can do it better.

Ah yes, I refd the fn2000 a bit when designing this, though the sloped integrated sight system was already in my plan.

in the integrated sight and the grip/trigger group, definitely. There's easily enough other influences here tho.

Very stylish rifle. I would be concerned about just getting a 50cal design to not explode let alone look as cool as this.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to rottel [2009-03-19 06:00:29 +0000 UTC]
Haha, non exploding 50s shouldn't be that hard, just dont use a barrel as thin as for a .22
Thanks for the fav too, plus your work is sharp, become a great cell artist.

I was thinking something like poor venting warping the barrel and chamber or the springs failing under stress. Thank you !

nice man. though, one irk. a 50 cal has a hell of a recoil (even with the anti-recoil you have on). what is there to keep your gunner from sitting on his ass?
π: 0 β©: 1
Shimmering-Sword In reply to ShadowMachina [2008-05-04 03:14:02 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Josh. The round may be 50cal (width) but its not as long as the usual ones you would find in mounted machine guns or big sniper rifles. The round itself is shorter and theres less propellant. Ive seen an m4 carbine 50cal conversion in action and the recoil was very managable.
