I tried this but it didn't work, after I copied the grey thing back to my eye layer and clicked overlay, it didn't do anything so I changed the previous grey layer to overlay but then you could see the smudged layer, sorry that was a bit confusing but do you know what the problem is?? I did everything that you said and I tried a few times but it still didn't work

How many gray layers did you have visible at a time? (and what modes were they on?)

um.. all of them I think but they were on overlay as it says in the tutorial
