Description
In which our heroes are briefed on the situation, and certain facts about Telki's home life come to light.Just in case there are any new faces in the audience, in the first panel Tyr and Shelob are discussing the Trouble with Skyrim version of Erik the Slayer .
That weird little interlude about Erandur's circlet was thrown in to reference a little gaffe I made two strips ago , when Erandur managed to lose his circlet between the exterior of Jorrvaskr and the interior of the Bannered Mare. Our in-universe explanation is that he found the jewelry to be a bit gaudy but didn't want to hurt Telki's feelings, so he just discreetly chucked it when she wasn't looking. Luckily, Telki keeps spares! So in the entirely-plausible event that I goof up like that again, now you'll know what's going on.
And reintroducing Tyr’s stepdaughter Pearl! You might remember her from her blink-and-you’ll-miss-it debut in Part 4. Precocious little tyke, isn't she?
Speaking of backstory, who is this Romulus, or "Rommy," that keeps getting namedropped? Well, you'll get to meet him later. This is what a weresharknado looks like, though, if you were curious.
Well, I guess that's it! See you guys next ti—
... Oh yeah, almost forgot the elephant in the room. Reckon I can't be coy with it anymore: Telki is polyamorous. Like she mentioned above, she has three husbands: Erandur, Gideon, and Mercutio. You met Gideon in Part 3 , whereas Mercutio hasn’t shown up yet. Also, the aforementioned "Rommy" character is Telki's fiance, which means she has a Husband #4 waiting in the wings. I'll say right out the gate that their unorthodox situation is the sort in which everyone is up front and honest with each other and knows exactly what they're signing up for beforehand. However! If the idea still makes anyone uncomfortable, then the issue doesn't come up very much in this story, so hopefully you can hold your nose and press on with us.
The illustration in Panel 23 was of course drawn by Evil-is-Relative , and is it not the most adorable-slash-hilarious thing you've seen today?

"dies of throat stress"
Telki's world is rather confusing

That Relmyna? The one from the Shivering Isles? If you'd include the Shivering Isles into this comic, that would be literally the best thing ever.

One and the same. She very helpfully takes inconvenient people off their hands once in a while. Makes a bad babysitter, though.
If someone ever makes a good Shivering Isles mod, I will literally be begging Doug to let us drag Shelob there.

There's a reason why I try to limit the party to four in my own story.

Telki sounds just about like the most prepared person I know if she's equipped to handle a Dragon swinging by for tea. Also Pearl is absolutely precise with her language and it's delightful.
I thought I read somewhere in TES lore that elf children mature around the same rate as human but merely live longer as an adult, but this take on it seems much more interesting and I'm eager to see more of this well refined young Altmer - and the rest of the crew, of course, because they're on their way to kick some evil Ulfric booty!

You don't know the half of it. But yes, isn't Pearl great?
I'm not 100% sure on what the official lore says, but the idea of elves maturing at a decelerated rate is a pretty popular bit of fanon that I've seen floating around for a while. I do agree it makes things more interesting, and I guess it's technically more biologically tenable than the alternative for whatever that's worth in a world where Argonians have mammaries, don'tchaknow. Glad you're looking forward to more! I'm looking forward to showing you!

The fact that Telki is equipped to handle Odahviing if he ever comes to supper... Actually doesn't surprise me as much as I thought it would. And it greatly amuses me

I think I'll need to reread this one a few times to absorb all of the details regarding Telki's family and world.
Pearl is one of the most articulate children I've seen. Definitely genius level.

Yeah, looking back, we may have fallen a little short of our goal to make this a self-contained story. But hey, hopefully it's a fun enough arc that rereading it won't bee to painful, eh?
You're not kidding. Pearl's definitely top of her class, even for a high elf whose appearance belies her true experience.

How old is Pearl? Being Altmer, she looks a little older than a typical Skyrim child, almost a teenager.

Chronologically, she's 23. Mentally, she's a mid-forties scientist. Physically, she's preteen. Socially, she mostly interacts with adults, books, and her cats, so probably still mid-forties scientist.

That kid is surprisingly pretty, considering how Skyrim's kids... aren't. Also like how she mentioned sentient bear as something important. Go Curtis!

We've got the RS Children Overhaul to thank for that. www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/… Actually, the NPC we use for Pearl came from a different mod which built off of that one, but it was sadly taken down a couple months ago, so I can't link that one to you.
Curtis is always important.
