Awesome! haven't heard of this before but this will be extremely useful for secretly taking pictures ...street pictures...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StamatisGR In reply to silverroses222 [2009-02-18 11:45:46 +0000 UTC]

it's also very useful for landscapes, when you want everything in focus

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverroses222 In reply to StamatisGR [2009-02-19 14:19:04 +0000 UTC]

yes you're right, but for landscapes you can still use a tripod
so it's a lil' different

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StamatisGR In reply to silverroses222 [2009-02-19 15:14:24 +0000 UTC]

especially in landscapes with a tripod you can, shut the aperture down to f.22 or f.32 or even smaller and enjoy a hell of a depth of field. Everything from your nose to infinity will be in focus

silverroses222 In reply to StamatisGR [2009-02-21 17:01:12 +0000 UTC]

sure will be!

aR-Ka In reply to StamatisGR [2009-02-18 11:47:13 +0000 UTC]

yes,i can imagine...
its also very good for the hipshot thechnique
and for nightshoots when u use flash and u cannot focus due to the low lighting conditions

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StamatisGR In reply to aR-Ka [2009-02-18 11:54:17 +0000 UTC]

and for landscapes too!
I'm almost ignorant about the use of flash
I wouldn't mind if my camera hadn't one

aR-Ka In reply to StamatisGR [2009-02-18 11:56:30 +0000 UTC]

It is amazing! It has all my lenses.
Again, for my Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, 5.6.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StamatisGR In reply to damien-c [2009-02-18 12:09:41 +0000 UTC]

Amazing would be if it had all the future lenses that have not been produced yet!

Awesome, Stam! I was about to make a poll asking deviants which is the sharpest aperture on their lenses.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StamatisGR In reply to damien-c [2009-02-18 11:32:44 +0000 UTC]

mine is f1.2

StamatisGR In reply to damien-c [2009-02-18 11:38:51 +0000 UTC]

yep! sharpest!

yeah, I wish, my brightest is 2.8

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

damien-c In reply to StamatisGR [2009-02-18 11:43:29 +0000 UTC]

I still can't find the sharpest aperture for my lenses
50mm prime
100mm
18-55mm.
In one of my books it says that it's usually 2 steps bellow maximum aperture.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StamatisGR In reply to damien-c [2009-02-18 11:52:18 +0000 UTC]

usually it's around f8

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

damien-c In reply to StamatisGR [2009-02-18 11:54:51 +0000 UTC]

For my canon 50mm: [link]

at wide-open aperture the resolution is already very good and even across the frame. Stopping down lifts the quality to excellent levels peaking around f/5.6.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StamatisGR In reply to damien-c [2009-02-18 12:06:56 +0000 UTC]

quite interesting!
I'll be checking my Nikkor AF 28mm f/2.8D.
Though I trust my eyes better, because no lens in the product line is the same. There are major differences in quality even among exactly the same brand lenses. These differences are supposed to be of less significance in major brands (canon, nikon, etc.) and quite irritating at other brands (sigma, tamron, tokina etc.). So it's also a matter of luck, not to mention the price difference
