Description I've never really read any of the comics with Norman Osborn as green goblin, I'm from the Hobgoblin period (90's) but i've always heard he was a vicious S.O.B. which makes him a MAJOR pain in Spideys ass.
His long list of misdeeds include dropping Pete's girlfriend Gwen Stacy off a bridge, mayhem and other acts of supreme ass-ishness.
Also, people just seem want to fallow in the douche's footsteps. There's have been several other green goblins (including his own son), 4 hoblgoblins, a demogoblin, a grey goblin and a new villain using goblin tech called Menace.

really great pencil job on this one, and i really like the position you put spidey in, its not easy to draw a picture with that kind of an angle. Props man.

Lol! That's what we have to do to improve, huh? Not shy away from our weaknesses or dislikes, but charge them head-on

thats for true man, the harder the illustration, the better. if it's easy to draw, then your either doing something wrong, or your already a pro.

Also, it makes the work more exiting for the artist and keeps the keeps the passion there.

This looks great, Doom. I remember reading about the whole Gwen Stacey thing a long time ago. It was one of the most emotional comic stories I've ever read.

The Goblin is like they slapped the worst of Lex Luthor and the Joker together and turned him loose in a darker universe...

Can't forget knocking up Gwen Stacy with Twins (the progeria affected Gray and Gold Goblins).

But at least he fragged that nasty Jessica Drew poser...

Also, I have a feeling Menace is Harry Osborne... since they decided to "write" almost all of Straczynski's run out with Brand New Day...

StevenVnDoom In reply to roadkillroy [2009-02-20 15:05:41 +0000 UTC]

What I hate the most about Brand New Day are the changes in the relationship between Aunt May and Peter. One of my fav Straczynski issues was the one where Pete and Aunt May really talked about him being spider-man. I loved that after all these years both of their characters were FINALLY growing. I loved that Pete was a school teacher. Everyone were finally growing up and Quesada and that silly brand new day went and ruined it all. As for Menace, it turned out to be Harry's girlfriend, I think. Don't ask me her name cause she doesn't matter enough for me to remember it.

Truth.

I almost claimed not to have snagged any Spidey comics since BND, but the truth is I got the Antivenom storyline, which could have been much much worse. I do like the redesigne they did with Venom in Dark Avengers, but I've never been a fan of the gaping drooly McFarlane art. Honestly, I preferred the way that Bagley handled it. He's a far better artist anyway.

People just can't handle when things change sometimes. Personally, I think the Clone Saga could have been good, if they'd only figured out what direction they wanted to go in and figured out in advance how they wanted to end it, but by the end of it so many of us were like, "OMG... will it just end already?"

Ans you're absolutely right about the character development. I reread some of the stuff they were putting out in the early 90's and it's more painful to me than Silver Age comics. And that's saying something. I'm glad they finally realized that the writers matter as well in the long run, even if they won't commit to a storyline...

StevenVnDoom In reply to roadkillroy [2009-02-21 10:35:13 +0000 UTC]

Antivenom UGH!!! That thing sucked! Don't they understand that is OVERKILL? Venom is supposed to be the dark side, the flip side of spidey. It's ridiculous for them to repeat it! I am a McFarlane fan, but I have to agree with you that there's a reason Bagley has been drawing Spidey from Amazing to Ultimate for so many years. I think he's a really overlooked artist, actually. He should be a superstar.
I don't disagree with Clone saga, I get the feeling that Clone Saga was supposed to be Marvel's answer to the awesome stories at DC at the time. The Death of Superman, Knightfall, Emerald Dawn, Terminal Velocity etc. It wasn't so much about "telling a good story" as it was about "having a character changing storyline on a icon to compete with DC" The difference was that the writers at DC had their ideas planned out from start to finish while the clone saga seemed t be written from issue to issue and it became a runaway train.

Cool! Yeah, Gwen Stacy's death was a BIG seller back when it first came out, and really showed the Goblin at his most atrocious. Nice work!

Thank you! Although I never got to read any of the old Norman as Green Goblin books I always remembered(when Norman was believed dead) that any time the slightest mention of the Osborn or Goblin names was made it was a biiiig deal so when I drew this I tried to make Norman loo so evil and dangerous the sight of him could make Spidey want to wet himself!
