SHORT STORY
The sun was beginning to set in the beautiful valley of the Alaskan wilds. Many creatures were scurrying for shelter and getting ready to rest while others were beginning to slink from their hiding places for the day and begin their night routine of scavenging, hunting, and lurking in the darkness. A group of deer silently made their way from the meadow back to the safety of the woods, finding an appropriate place to rest and safe enough to keep themselves and their young safe. Walking silently was a group of Tokota's. A fierce looking dire by the name of Truffle was included in this group, her footsteps were hushed despite her towering size. Beside her, Luciana a sphinx female and Madow a half-mane female also walked silently, their heads lowered and eyes wide, peering around the world before them to try and spy anything interesting or worth their time. Close behind was Kishi a longmane male who was mixed with the bright color white and then the night color, black. He trotted while panting, head held high as he curiously glanced around. Finally, a female tundra named Engel trotted behind everyone else with Boon the toki and David, a guest handler, walking with them all. The group had to keep a slower than usual pace since David walked with them, and he had decided not to try and mount any of the Tokota's. Instead, he walked with them all, in the back of the pack, keeping an eye on them. Truffle's stomach started growling and she pinned her ears back, looking around at everyone to see if they heard. Luciana gave an intrigued look at the dires stomach, sniffing curiously and flickering her ears as she grew uninterested once more. David chuckled at the dires stomach growling and at the sound of David digging around, Truffle trotted over towards David, lowering the front half of her body in a play like position but of course she was only eyeing where David's hand was searching, for food possibly. David grinned at the dire, extending his arm to pet the bridge of her snout in which the dire did not protest at all and waited patiently, sort of, for a reward for her kindess! David's hand retracted from his pocket, rewarding the dire happily with some homebaked Tokota treats he had made the previous day for his own Tokota's. "That's a good girl..." he complimented the dire happily, a smile planted on his face. If the dire could smile, she sure would be as well. She easily took the treat from his hands, gently of course, and swallowed it without so much as two chews. So much for enjoying your food! "Slow down!" David chuckled again, "You just inhaled those treats! Why not try to enjoy them, fatty?" Truffle wagged her tail, her tongue lolling from her jaws as she listened to him speak. No clue what he was saying! Probably praising her for successfully devouring the treat! Luciana and Madow now flocked David, nosing his pockets and hands with an obsessive look on their faces. Kishi and Engel watched the scene go down, sitting nearby but not close enough to nose David or anything. They had all been fed recently and Kishi certainly did not care for food when he had previously ate. Engel did not want to get in anyones way and start any sort of fight breakout, so she decided to lay down peacefully, but still watching with her ears perked. Maybe a treat would be dropped... Bingo! One did drop in the midst of all the action. Luciana and Madow were too busy harassing David and trying to get into his pockets to notice. Engel looked up nervously at Kishi, whining for a moment before beginning to slowly army crawl towards the crime scene. She licked her jaws, eyes focused solely on the fallen treat. As she got closer, her tail thumped against the earth loudly, but it did not gather any of the Tokota's attention.. at least not the ones trying to force David for treats. Kishi watched them, amused now. Engel was finally close enough, and she snagged the treat quickly. This then triggered Luciana to look down, curious as to why Engel had crawled over there. And hey... what was she eating? Luciana stuffed her nose in Engel's face, sniffing obsessively and pawing at Engel who flopped onto her back in submission, offering a few high pitched whine growls towards Luciana. The black sphinx sneered at the tundra Tokota's behavior, snorting in her face before turning around to further harass David. Kishi trotted over, standing above Engel and growled lowly... just to be a stingy and for no other reason. David fell on his bottom in defeat, pulling out the remainder of his treats and throwing them over all of the crowding Tokota's, forcing them to run over and gather the treats. "Now I know not to bring treats anymore.." He grumbled to himself.
