SHORT STORY
Maverick exhibited playful behavior, galloping around the meadow happily as he and the rest of his pack members anticipated the hunt that they were about to leave to. Killian lay down nearby, rolling her eyes at the all too playful pup along with Sage who was interested in watching rather than participating. Maverick knew his place in the pack, so he did not attempt to get any of them to play with him. Instead, he would bug Little Dipper who was younger and more playful than the others and was more than happy to a little play here and there. Amarok trotted onto the scene, eyeing the now two playing pups before snorting and sitting near Killian. Reina and the handler, David, came onto the scene. Reina was not too happy with this stranger but she was very interested in the hunt, rather excited even so as long as this David character did not bother her or try to interact with her, she would be fine. David called for the group, mounting atop Amarok who allowed him to do so and began leading the way. The rest of the pack behind them trotted in a single file line, nobody stepping out of line despite the shere amount of excitement hunting trips brought, especially when they were on the way to hunt mountain goat which could prove to be good opponent considering they were prey items and such. The group trotted up the mountain at a good pace, the wind pressing against their faces and fur. Sage's curly and longer fur was very wavey in the wind, she looked rather majestic. Once in the mountains, around the zone where the mountain goats resided, they split up a bit in search of scent clues that would lead them to their desired prey. It wasn't long before Killian sparked up with something, alerting the group with low toned growls and prancing around her spot. They all gathered around, busily sniffing around where Killian had found and deciding to head up towards the area where the scent was leading them. They became more excited now, running ahead impatiently. Maverick whined lowly and Killian growled, snapping at his face in punishment. He was not able to be loud right now- he would ruin their hunt and Killian would beat him up essentaily. Finally, they spotted the goat herd. The goats were casually grazing on the limited mountains grass and the minerals in the rocks. Reina licked her jaws obsessively, wide eyes following the members of the herd as they walked around. The group would split up from there, fanning out to create a secure hunting circle around the herd which would ensure no goat could easily escape and give the hunters more of a success chance at their hunt. Killian and Amarok waited for everyone to get into the position before springing from their positions and immediately creating havoc on the goat numbers. They hooved creatures scattered in a mess of white fur and bleating mindlessly. The rest of the hunting party would slowly start to show themselves as goats got too close to the sides of the circle they had created, popping out to scare the goat in the other direction. They would close in to tighten the circle in unity, working together very well despite their differences. Killian spotted a particular goat attempting to escape in an open zone and she instantly charged forwards towards it, sprinting to gain enough speed to catch up and cut the goat off from the safety of the steeper ledges. She bodyslammed the goat while running next to it, forcing it to trip over and in the fall it badly injured it's ankle before falling off a fall of quite a few feet. At the bottom, blood could be seen leaving the goats mouth and other injuries around it's body. Killian flagged her tail, pleased with the almost effortless kill before hopping down to claim her reward proudly. Above, Maverick and Dippy harassed a goat down, forcing it to submit as it grew tired and exhausted from the tireless Tokota's chase. It bowed down on a knee in defeat, panting heavily as it took it's last few gasps of air. The two played with the goat before actually killing it, causing the poor thing to suffer more than it should. Reina and Sage looked around for a goat calling their name. It wasn't long before a loud bleating goat was spotted racing around in the confusion, hitting corner and just looking overall lost and confused. They took this advantage without protest, trotting towards the goat with their heads lowered, looking for some way to safely attack the goat. The goat was bleating and kicking before it saw the two, in which it attempted to charge forward towards them. The two easy split up and came from behind, grabbing and throwing the goat to the ground. Easy.
