Description Ok well this one is a bit more obvious than my last one, but I thought it was pretty and gross at the same time. I love that mix!

This is my second entry for $chix0r and $spinegrinder 's Anti-Valentines Contest .

TECH
Lighting was standard "glass lighting" for those of you who are keeping score. There is a softbox on either side, pointing more or less towards the camera, so the light goes through the glass and the ice cubes. This is how you avoid the ugly reflections in the glass. The lens is the Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX Macro that I love so much. A lot of people have been asking me lately, "What lens should I get for macro and portraits?" This is the one. It's very flexible. It has great color and sharpness, can focus down to about 30cm, and it won't break the bank. What more could a portrait/product/macro photographer ask for?

wow, most of me finds this genuinely creepy, because duh, its a heart, and a little bit of me is totally disgusted because I'm a vegetarian and eugh its meat which the sight of makes me ill, but it also makes me curious, which is the best part about this photo, it makes me consider photographing a subject like this myself *with someone to prob the meat about for me as i couldn't touch it hehe*.
You've done a fantastic job here with the lighting just adding a bit of shine to the heart, i love this!

I couldn't handle raw meat even when I wasn't vegetarians years ago to cook with lol, so I think I'd have to have industrial marigolds to touch this!

ewww

I did a shot with raw meat but because of the fake blood and bright colors it really doesn't have as much impact as this.

GREAT choice to put it in a cup too. Not only does the glass make a good lighting source, but it makes a mental connection between the raw meat and the mouth.

How many off-brand lenses do you use on your Canon cameras? I don't like to put any Sigmas in particular on my 5D because it can cause Error 99 messages. I work at a camera store and we've had to send a couple of 20D's off for repair because of it. It's supposed to be a communication error or something...

Maybe it isn't a problem with the 5D.

superkev In reply to MOrngeboy [2006-12-18 17:22:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man. I have a couple of Sigma lenses (105mm, 24mm, 12-24mm). I have used them with my 10D and now the 5D, without any problems. I think I got an error message a few times, but that was with the Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS USM. All I had to do was switch off the camera, take off the lens, put it back on, switch on again, and it was fine. I've been very happy with the performance of my 105mm and 12-24mm Sigma lenses. The 24mm is mediocre, but comes in handy sometimes.

awesomely creepy, and an amazing concept! the ice in the martini glass adds a touch of class to the picture. love the lighting you've used too. it's great because everything looks so clean- the heart hasn't tainted the ise or anything. fabulous.

Wow, that's really odd but eye catching to have an actual heart in a picture. I love how you took "cold heart" so literal. I love the black background and the blue hues in the glass, too.
