Ok well this one is a bit more obvious than my last one, but I thought it was pretty and gross at the same time. I love that mix!This is my second entry for $chix0r and $spinegrinder 's Anti-Valentines Contest .
TECH
Lighting was standard "glass lighting" for those of you who are keeping score. There is a softbox on either side, pointing more or less towards the camera, so the light goes through the glass and the ice cubes. This is how you avoid the ugly reflections in the glass. The lens is the Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX Macro that I love so much. A lot of people have been asking me lately, "What lens should I get for macro and portraits?" This is the one. It's very flexible. It has great color and sharpness, can focus down to about 30cm, and it won't break the bank. What more could a portrait/product/macro photographer ask for?

Sometimes the more obvious ones work better than ambiguous ones. I personally love this. Reminds me of my old Biology lessons where I'd volunteer to dissect the hearts first, just to make everyone squeal.

Very macabre - but in that good way! I really like how you combined opposites - cold (ice) and warm (heart), black and white, blue and red; beauty and horror... It's a real nice blend!

i like this one a lot. makes me think of those so called "man eater" women who completely reduce their victim to a helpless mess then slowly drain him of everything leaving an empty shell. but in this instance, instead of ravenously devouring him the lady is going to langerously sip away like he was a fruit flavored vodka. and i so so SO wish i could reach my hand inside the computer screen and stick a little umbrella into the valve. i giggle just thinking about it. really nice shot. and yeah, as said, the lighting is flawless. i love the blue glow the glass seems to have and the way the middle of the stem is blue. makes it seem all the colder. what a cold hearted bitch. now where's that umbrella?

the black background is about 2.5m away from the camera. the more important thing is that the lights are pointed away from the background to make it very black. absence of light=black.

i'll keep that in mind for my next attempt .. unfortunately my black bakground is not quite "matte" so i get reflections EVERY time .. but i keep try'n Thank You!

heh well matte can help a bit, the point is that if you don't have any light hitting it, there won't be any to reflect

Nice concept...a bit straight forward though....hmmm nice work with the glass....but imho i could still see some reflection of the softbox..on the upper left side of the glass..but overall i think nice job....really hard getting unwanted reflections off
