Description If you need me to tell you to fullview this... you're not particularly bright.

There are some projects that appear in my head and I'll think they're awesome ideas, but it takes a jolt or stimulus of some kind to actually galvanise me into action. This was one of them.

I'd watched the Phantom of the Opera movie much earlier in the year and quite enjoyed it, and quite soon after I got the idea of doing a picture of the Phantom and Christine as Umbreon and Espeon Pokemorphs. For those of you who don't know Pokemon, the Espeon and Umbreon are, respectively, the Daylight and Moonlight Pokemon and are often seen as having a yin and yang sort of relationship, since they evolve from the same species as well. So the leap from the day-and-night symbolism in Phantom was pretty much natural as far as my mind was concerned. I really liked the idea but never got around to starting it, and it soon got buried in the dust along with the other ideas I never got around to starting.

THEN I saw Phantom on Broadway, and WOW. It was the most superb performance of anything that I've watched in a very long time, and as it turned out, was just the kick I needed to get this piece finished. and I am so freaking proud of it

Anyway. I don't know what it is with my penchant for Pokemorphs all of a sudden, but this just seemed to fit.

I was going to use refs but Christine's dress didn't like me or my wobbly small tablet so I designed her one of my own. And I ended up guessing and making up Erik's costume too but oh well, it's still recognisable as them, I suppose. I really enjoyed doing the hair. The shading took forever but it was all worth it, dammit I love AIRBRUSHES!

And for those of you who want to see more scenes from the Pokemon of the Opera, feel free to suggest them to me. (I've decided Raoul shall be a Flarey )

--

I'm not sure to whom The Phantom of the Opera is copyrighted to, since it's been a book, a movie and a musical o_X; But if you think I'm either Gaston Leroux or Andrew Lloyd Webber, then I feel sorry for you.

I'm such a geek, but I like the Pokemon GBC games still(only I wish the story changed some from version to version) and I doubly love/adore PotO, so... -fave!-

And I wish my school did something awesome like give out free PotO Broadway tickets... Living in Texas probably has something to do with it. We did get to go see the Les Miserables musical as an English class, which was awesome and heartbreaking and a musical everyone should see at least one. Although it would help if you read the book first...

Hey, doesn't make ya a geek to like Pokemon (unless you start becoming obsessively into it, but that's something else). I too wish the story would change though.. gets kinda boring. The show didn't change story very much either x.O

Eh, yeah, my school is an art college in New York after all. But I want to see Les Miserables now! heh.. *loves musicals in general*

Thank you

why didn't i see this before, why, why? this is amazing, whippet...honestly...my poke-art is shamed by your talent. they have such life and character...and not to mention, this is the first time i've ever seen pokemon anthropomorphasised, and it's an awesome result. By way of suggestion...i don't know if anyone has already said it, but you should do the masquerade scene. that was probably my favorite part of the movie. OR the part where Christine sings. ...that was really helpful, i know. The first time she sings in the play, and she's in the beautiful white dress. ...i'm rambling...alright. GORGY ARTWORK lovelove yay.

thankyouu. Gah, so many scenes to try drawing! @_@ That entire show/movie was gorgeous. I loved that white dress too but can't find good refs of it :\ *resolves to borrow the Phantom DVD and freeze-frame* I might end up using some of the costumes from the play instead. eh.

And I like your poke-art :\

Blast! Now you have that song stuck in my head. -sings along with the voices in my head-
The Umbreon/Espeon idea was classic, I'm impressed by your brilliance.
I can't stop staring at their eyes! Christine's is so absolutly beautiful and Erik's gives the impression that he's going to murder anyone who breathes at Christine - well done!
I like the way you've made the Umbreon almost part of the darkness. In Gaston Leroux's book he titles Erik as 'the ghost'. Plus, Erik in character is a very dark person with dark passions and dark everything.

Wonderful, beautiful artwork!
I can't wait to see some more Phantom/Pokemon crossovers from you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to ScarredWolf [2005-09-17 18:26:16 +0000 UTC]

LOL. Was that your sig even before you commented? haha.. well it's a gorgeous song anyway

Thanks so much for your words.. you're way too kind. Yes actually that was my purpose in making Erik so dark. (But now people can't see him -_-; Bah..) And the dark and light symbolism that they give Erik and Christine in the musical just spawned the whole Umbreon/Espeon thing too. So.. yeah. heh. I'm glad you like it

I've done two more crossover pictures since then, actually.. they should be somewhere in my recent gallery page.

LOL heh.. the movie was cool, though if you're watching it for the first time it's kinna hard to see what's happening. But the sets and costumes make up for it, they were awesome.. and Emmy Rossum has a lovely lovely voice The Broadway version kicks the movie's ass hands down, though

Anyhoo, 'sanke dear. Good of you to stop by

...whoa. That's all I can say.

The minorrest thing I can complain about is that I don't think it's really that good to make the background all black. I can hardly see the Poke-phantom at all, although I understand that it does help the image of him being a Phantom and all XD

And damn I like that Espeon. >_<;

LOL yeah.. I was trying to make him like sort of part of the darkness whereas Christine stood out more. Or maybe it's just something wrong with my eyes.. I seem to have problems with contrast all the time. It was a sore point with my JC art teacher. My shading is either too light or too dark.. either way there's not enough difference 9_6;

Anyways, thanks Hope all is well back home..
