Commission forSurprisingly, I had a bit of trouble with this.
I thought since it was a Mal' just adding a little more bulk to a husky body would effectively achieve the anatomy....-wrong. This is why I love drawing other breeds: it gives me a chance to learn about them. Malamutes have a very different structure than a husky (go figure) Broader head, thicker joints, longer coat,ect.
In the end the only sketch that ended up worth while was a bit cartoony for what I would have liked but I enhanced the image by fur detail
My only concern is the eyes. They don't "pop" as much as I'd like them to. Than again it's a malamute characteristic to have smaller eyes in comparision to the head.
The background is a little childish, but Kodiac(the malamute) is Youkou's baby
Edit- I added a little more shading to his face to soften the eyes

I think you did a really good job on breed type with this.....a lot of people don't "get" the differences, but believe me, when you judge both you really see that they are SO different - and this one is all Mal.

Your freaking shading is miraculous, and the way you can incorporate REAL fur colors into a single coat...GEEZ. You can see that there's a hell of a lot of detail here. I love your lineart, and I love your coloring. Most of all, though, I love the expressions you put into your drawings. Let's face it - you're just amazing.

I definetly see Malamute. I own a Siberian Husky myself and there is a big difference between both breeds. I love the colouring and expression. Adorable. ^^

EEee tailfrost artses! Its hard to believe you were challenged on this piece because the final product looks so refined, like you've been drawing Mal anat for years. The strength of the breed is obvious in the way you've painted this and yet at the same time the pure FLOOFINESS of the coat can't be ignored! I love how you've rendered the fur, so much depth and texture to it I really just want to bury my face in it!! :3
And as you said about the eyes, any bigger wouldn't fit in with the overall realism of the piece (whereas I just give any animal massive eyes

Dude, I love the *poof* that you give your spitzy coats. (I've started drawing floof with lots of smooth curved lines lately - think that's your influence! :B)
I love drawing other breeds for the exact same reason - it's so much fun and satisfaction to be able to effectively switch doggy anatomy in between breeds!
