When using my tutorials or techniques explained in my tutorials all I need is that you say or write "Inspired by Talty" somewhere on the description, that's all I'm asking for. A link back to my gallery or tutorial is appreciated, but not necessary. You can make anything in my tutorials for personal or commercial purposes (yes, that means you can sell what you make) but you can't claim these techniques as your own. No redistribution, reposting or repacking of my tutorials, images, text or any part of them is allowed. They can't be translated to other languages without my permission (ask me about it). FREE TUTORIAL, NEVER TRY TO SELL IT.
Sorry for the extremely large file!
~thinkpastel had a wonderful idea and used circle templates (the kind used for drafting) instead of the washer! [link] She says that she can work any scale up to 1:4, so you can try that too!
I finally finished this tutorial! It feels like it took me forever
I hope this is understandable
I think it's implicit, but anyway: the measures I gave are only for reference! Don't feel restrained by my instructions - use a washer of any size you want! Also, I don't have cutters (yet) but use any cutter you want and make plates with beautiful shapes!
Please show me what you can do using this tutorial! I would really really love to see your plates with or without food

Not sure if you've answered this question already....What kind of paint did you use to paint your plate?
The little design you painted is very pretty by the way

Oh thanks! In this case I used gel pens, I wanted to see if it worked but unfortunately the gel pens take forever to dry over polymer clay, so my design died not long after I took the photos
I tried to use some kind of spray coat to seal it, but it still smudged all over.

They do? Oo are you using polymer clay too? Maybe you're pushing a bit too hard... but if the problem is that they're sticking, try rubbing a bit of cornstarch or spritz some water so that the clay doesn't stick and break.
π: 0 β©: 1
TheDarkLittleBunnY In reply to Talty [2012-07-06 22:36:29 +0000 UTC]
It's probably because they get stuck to it... 'cause If I don't push hard ebough they wont get out of there O.o

Talty In reply to TheDarkLittleBunnY [2012-07-06 23:33:12 +0000 UTC]
Then I would recommend using some water or cornstarch so that the clay doesn't stick that much

this in particular wasn't as I expected. At the time I was trying to use gel pens to paint on polymer clay, but the ink doesn't stick to polymer clay easily and it takes forever to dry... it's the same issue I had with the paint I did on the bowls from my bowl tutorial. I gave up on that experiment, it just doesn't work as I expected.

Instead of using my fat fingers to press it down, I just used an un-sharpened pencil, works great. These look beautiful in premo gold by the way.

A washer. Washer. What's a washer?
By the way, excellent tutorial. And I like how you always share your techniques. How long have you worked with clay, again? *Side glance at my worryingly ugly WIP* No matter, it always ends up better than it looks at first.
I might try this out. Cold porcelain is probably a good medium. Maybe even un-tinted. But the shape... *Mumbles to self*

Washer: [link]
Thank you! I love sharing techniques, I love helping. I've been doing this for almost three years now, how the time flies
You can't possibly tell me this is ugly xD [link] I watched your gallery and I think everything is gorgeous, the finished look is amazing!
I haven't worked with cold porcelain, but I think it should work for this xD specially if you use some sort of release agent, I don't know what you use for cold porcelain but I'm thinking maybe a thin layer of vaseline?

Nanahuatli In reply to Talty [2012-02-01 19:28:38 +0000 UTC]
Oh! That's a washer. Thanks, I was confused.
Aw, shucks. Thanks. My problem is that I have trouble envisioning the finished work (that can't be good), so I start out with an approximate shape and then correct and polish as the more advanced stages help me see the flaws more clearly. But until then I don't know whether I'm on the right track or not. ^^U Especially if it's the first time I try something (and I'm making a Snorlax for the first time).
About the porcelain, vaseline or oil should work, but what I'm concerned about is it curling. It's happened to me when I left thin objects to cure. The exposed side dries faster and shrinks, so the edges start curling. And I can't suspend it, because gravity does the same in the opposite direction. But, perhaps a plate so thin and small would dry so fast that neither would have time to happen.
(Too long a post?)

Talty In reply to Nanahuatli [2012-02-03 16:01:35 +0000 UTC]
A Snorlax! that should be fun to do and look at xD well what helps me envision my project is looking for lots of reference photos to make a mental image of what I want do. Sort of like a collage in my mind.
Oh I didn't know curling was a problem with cold porcelain, maybe you could let it dry upside down (with the plate against the table) so it doesn't curl? or with a small weight?

Nanahuatli In reply to Talty [2012-02-05 03:42:31 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but I think I'll have to make another. Just out of stubbornness and to see how it turns out, I'll finish this one, but it's already hopeless (it might end up looking like SOMETHING, but definitely not what I planned. XD
Yeah, I've had that problem. I'll try that, though. I don't think it would leave marks. It'll take more time to dry, though.

Talty In reply to Nanahuatli [2012-02-08 15:19:45 +0000 UTC]
Stubbornness is good, it helps me improve xD sometimes I make stuff a million times until it looks like I wanted. So much wasted clay!
But to make myself feel better, I call it patience of perseverance

No, never microwave polymer clay! It's dangerous. It has to be baked in an oven.

You are welcome, I'm glad I could help I'm not sure what exactly happens, but I know it releases some toxic fumes or something, so it's really awesome that you can use a regular oven instead
