FREE TUTORIAL, NEVER TRY TO SELL IT.

Sorry for the extremely large file! I swear, it seems like my tutorials keep getting bigger and bigger...

~thinkpastel had a wonderful idea and used circle templates (the kind used for drafting) instead of the washer! [link] She says that she can work any scale up to 1:4, so you can try that too!

I finally finished this tutorial! It feels like it took me forever

I hope this is understandable I added many photos and less text, it seemed like a good idea but now I'm not sure... maybe I didn't explain enough

I think it's implicit, but anyway: the measures I gave are only for reference! Don't feel restrained by my instructions - use a washer of any size you want! Also, I don't have cutters (yet) but use any cutter you want and make plates with beautiful shapes!

Please show me what you can do using this tutorial! I would really really love to see your plates with or without food Go crazy!

This tutorial is great! Really simple but effective, with great results.. these are the best plates I've seen Hm, so you just use sandpaper to clean the washers? I've got a kinda rusty one which I tried sandpapering but it came out looking scratched. You can't really feel any dents or anything and it wouldn't affect the smoothness of the plate, but still ^.^

I'm glad you think so and you found it helpful Yes I only used sandpaper, I think I used a 600 grit, maybe that's why mine aren't scratched. It's kinda soft. Still, I'm sure scratches won't interfere with the quality of the plates, as you said

What is the glaze made of?
I know that was probably a stupid question XD

Nah it's not really a stupid question when you ask a chemist I'm not sure, I couldn't find the info, but given the texture and looks I believe it's a clear polymer resin with a solvent that air dries, or something like that.

what type of paint is good to use with clay?

I remember in elementary school we did clay dinosaurs and the paint that I used 15 years ago is STILL sticky on the piece.

What is your recommendation for paint?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Talty In reply to dracostarhome [2010-10-18 14:26:28 +0000 UTC]

Anything you put on clay, make sure it's water based. Oil based paints or glazes will never dry I once read that alcohol base paints are ok too, but I haven't tried them.

I use a kind of cheap, acrylic, water base paints. They dry quickly

podre hacerlo con plastilina? trate de hacerlo con maizena como en un tutorial aqui pero quedan unas grietas >:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Talty In reply to KiraNoBanni [2010-09-11 15:43:21 +0000 UTC]

First thing, let me say thank you for this tutorial! It was incredibly helpful. All of my plates's attempts have failed miserably, until I found your tips

Secondly, I didn't have any washer handy when I tried this tutorial, so I looked around in my shop for something similar .
I found this tool . I unfortunately have no idea of how it is called in english , but it's a pretty common tool, it's super cheap (mine costs 2,00€) and there's lots of measures, you can use it for basically any scale up to 1:4

Hope you won't mind my intrusion , but I believed this might be useful for someone else. I had a moment of panic when I realized I had to venture into and hardware store to get a washer , and I was relieved to find something more handy (well, to me at least )

Thanks again for the great tutorial

I'm so happy to know I helped you I saw your plates and they're beautiful! Nicely done

I love that you found an alternative tool, I'll update the comments to add your idea I don't know how is it called in English either, I'll have to look it up Thanks for the feedback, I think it's great and I believe it will really help someone else!

You're welcome, and thanks for your nice comments

I just have a quick question. Say we made something that needed a plate and used this teqnique and then sold it somewhere like on etsy is that not okay? I hav'nt I was just wondering

It's perfectly fine, I don't mind! Use any information I give you however you want to, actually I would feel honored if something you make using this tutorial or my other tutorials gets sold Please only send me a link because I would love to see what you can do and if it's possible, I would appreciate a link back but it's not really necessary.

mobandy644 In reply to Talty [2010-04-07 01:25:50 +0000 UTC]

ok! I was just asking because I want to try out making mini food with polymer clay and I make other kinds of jewelry so I thought if I did start experimenting with it it might be cool to sell what I make along with my other jewelry! I could definatly show you what I made but Would I have to link back to you on the etsy site? Because wouldnt that be like showing the people how to make it so they don't have to buy mine? I mean I would DEFINATLY link back to you if I put a picture of it on here but on the etsy site? Please don't take this as my being rude! but I'm just wondering but it's great by the way! thanks!
