Magical things seem to happen when me and GrandMetroViper have our conversations (and by magical I mean rant idea's.)In my rant please leave the fandom, grand didn't hold back and went on about how the feed back sega is getting from fans, are from people who have no idea about the series, and think every game is on the level of 06 (and thanks to Nintendo for what they did to sonic boom more evidence is there...)
Sadly, sega listening to these type of fans is creating a bias in the fandom that's creating more problems. This is kind of why I feel they should be one to call out their fandom when they do stupid shit, seeing that it is becoming their fault. Sega really needs to know their fans better, and us fans that have been in the dark need to step up are game and fight back against these fakers.
Sonic's going to be a nostalgia trip from here on out now because of people who have an obsession over classic Sonic, yet my buddy Nintrendodude and others get bitched at because they want SA3. Even if we don't get it at this point I would like a game where we can play more characters then Sonic, cause news flash Sega, it's getting fucking old.
Yes SA had it's flaws, but some of it's good features like different characters WITH DIFFERENT GAME PLAY FEATURES, could really use a comeback...

But yeah I'll say it again for the folks who might see this there is a CLEAR bias being created by Sega thanks to how more open they are being with their series. Sonic fans have always had an assorted history that the internet has created and they themselves have created also. It is now acceptable to ridicule and mock people for liking Sonic from inside the fandom they think they're a part of when they're not evne casual goers. It's just that Sonic Mania for example has watered down the experience to be impressionable to everyone because Sonic's identity has also become more sterile. A series that has tried new things that yes hurt its credibility but at the same time they were willing to experiment. It is now a series that isn't capable of branching itself out and has become this self eating leech from its inside.

And you hit the nail perfectly on the head with who you said. I can understand going over board with taking things seriously, but I can name 5 other fandoms that need the "don't take it seriously" talk more then this fandom...

Yeah I mean even Mario knows to do at least something new every now and again and BOY do they want you to love the NES super Mario Bros 3 with all the fucking references they do in every game. But at least Super Mario Odyssey is something different. It seems with Breath of the Wild and Odyssey Nintendo could be doing a more open gimmick with these games which is something they can do great with some of there games. Say whatever you want about how they handle their business and hardware with their games they at least try and take risk (Your Mileage May Vary)

Ironically that's something sega needs to do. I know they've had a rough past but with the sonic movie and comic possibly ending I think they should put their big boy pants on and start trying new stuff, bring in the comic characters and introduce them to those who don't know them, stop having classic sonic every where, and let sonic be serious.

Speaking of Nintendo again they are VERY protective of their products and that is all the more proven with the purge of fan games and fandom created content. I've said this in one of my post (not sure which one I bitch a lot so I tend to forget) but just because Sega allows people to make fan content doesn't prove much of anything. In many way I get that it is incredibly shitty to destroy the work fans are doing for you for free but I think Sega is allowing fan content to mend the gap they're too lazy to do themselves. Why make a proper Classic Game that also has love for the modern games like Sonic Before/After the Sequel when you can indoctrinate the stigma of Classic Sonic being this hollow, silent generic cute protagonist and thinking just having him in the games is what people ask for. Why spend time developing the characters you've created when you can let fans do that for you.....which leads to in fighting about what these characters actually are because each era of Sonic offers a completely different character (as brought up with the Sonic Dissected series).

And also fan fiction because people can say what they want these fan writers do a better job at consistent character personalities than the source material.
