And yes, I know his shoulders are weird in a few of them, but oh well.
Anyway, I did this as a response to an old meme called "character is..." which ended long before I found it, but there wasn't a Zuko one, so I decided to do this just for fun.
Avatar (c) and Sokka, Toph, and Zuko (c) belong to Nick and Mike and Brian. The Phantom belongs to Gaston Leroux, Susan Kay, and Andrew Lloyd Webber (but mostly Leroux, even though he died 80 years ago).

You pick on Tokoans, but not crazy Zutarians? My heart is hurt. XD JK, not really.
But just to say, in many non-industrial cultures, women were and are considered "adults" once they begin puberty- ready for marriage, even. As you point out, Zuko is not a modern-day high school student. In this instance, he could be considered, not a 'young adult' going after a middle school 'kid' but an adult, initiating a relationship with another adult. It's all about social context. I wouldn't like to see that kind of age difference happening in my own life, but in that world and what it is based on, it might make sense.
And, of course, if I see any fellow Kataangers complaining about Toko weirdness, I just have to point out the sexism. Toph and Aang are the same age. He can have an older partner and she can't? And why do Tokkaneers never seem to get this kind of cry-pedophilia crap? What big difference does one year make?
Fans are fickle, imo.
