Do you take many pictures to manage to get these in which the birds are in such magnificent positions?

when i took this shot it was from a sequence of 4 or 5 shots, over 2-3 seconds. i often lose a few to bad focus so allways try and get a manual
adjustment in for luck LOL. I use a Nikon D300 DSLR an excellent tool, takes 8FPS which is a must for high speed shots of birds.
