Although I have a difficult time deciding exactly what is my most favorite horror film this one is easily my top five, hell, maybe even my most favorite. "John Carpenter's The Thing", I can watch it a million times and it still never gets old, best monster gross-out movie ever. So I felt like doing my own version of the Thing. I really had no plans on how it would look, I just started sketching and came up with this. It was a blast letting my twisted mind go wild. Anyways, if you haven't already seen the film go and see it. Very fun, scary, gross, and intense film.Related content

I love the old one, I agree, it's my/THE best horror movie of all time, mainly because it has buckets of blood-but still remains good. I'm really friggin stoked for the new one, and I have high hopes for it. Mainly because they're using minimal CGI, mostly animatronics. They also made the layout of the base to match that from the 1984 version. And it's about the Norwegian team instead of the American one.

Indeed, they had plenty of blood, gross visuals, a great story, and memorable characters. I noticed that, like I remember watching the trailer and going "Zomg, there's the dog kennel, looks just like it! And there's the break room!" I'm so excited to see it, it looks like they really tried to stick to the original and to make the fans happy. Thanks for the link!

Any one else think the thing was based off of H.P. Lovecraft?

I definitely think a lot of John Carpenter's creations are inspired by H. P. Lovecraft. Especially The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, They Live, etc. Probably why he's my favorite director, cause he's similar to my favorite writer.

Or it could be the Lovecrafteian cruse, that is if you see a weird looking monster, that has some squid like things or lots of maws you start to think it's from Lovecraft.

man i always still wonder what the heck does this monster actually look like i mean it gains other lifeforms and takes them into it's body and pretty much turns into them and then transforms into a deformative mesh of tentacles and teeth yet this thing never actually showed it's real self. and it made me wonder allot because that thing had to come down from space in some physical form when it crashed in the alaska ice cap 10000 years ago. but we'll all find out this october when the prequel to the film comes out.
