Description 11x17 twice - there are two pages side by side, cause it's now like an open comic book
Pencil on Bristol Board - with some digital work in PhotoShop for the type

*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***

All of the books are getting a sort of "bonus illustration that would slip on the inside front cover of the book it was for. Philosopher's Stone got one of the vignette drawings painted, Chamber of Secrets got an original piece of Lockhart, made to look like a signed photo (I even printed it out on on glossy photo paper), but Prisoner of Azkaban got something a bit more involved... it got a comic book.

If you don't know, for charity J.K.Rowling wrote a short story (very short - it all fit on a single post card) about James Potter and Sirius Black in their youth. I adapted that story into a short comic book that would. The interiors are all in pencil (like I do my vignette drawings) but for the cover I did a full painting

Fun fact about me, of my career dreams in life, one was to be a penciler for comic books - that's part of the reason I decided to do this little project.

Page 5 was the only page I took liberties with the dialogue. The word bubbles were not J.K.R.'s words - but I felt for the comic version, they were necessary. Otherwise, I tried to leave her words unaltered... and for what it's worth, I just made an addition; no actual changes.

The poses with their wands drawn are totally epic!! I love it!! and I love the movement on the 2 panels just above...

Your dialog flows as naturally as the rest of the speech bubbles

I like that anecdote about yourself Of all the career ideas I had, one was to work as an illustrator for biology books

Again you are too kind - but thank you! The only dialog I added was the word balloon - but under the circumstances, I think it added the story in this medium. You "hear" thoughts differently in comics. And yes, if things had gone differently, I could be drawing comic books right now. I haven't turned my back on the format - heck, maybe someday I'll do a graphic novel of Potter...?

And that's a fun anecdote about you Funny how life takes us different places.
