Ah season 5. It's not the best of times, but it certainly is the worst of times so far. To Love a Patty is, by far, the worst episode so far. Horrible right from the concept? SpongeBob falls in love with a krabby patty? I'm sure this was picked from the top tier choosings from the writer's room, right alongside Patrick has sex with an ice cream cone. This season still has some amazing highs. There's a stretch of 3 episodes that are all 10s. If only the rest of the season could keep up this level of quality. Unfortunately most of the episodes range from good to great (7-8). A huge step down from the past four seasons.

Animation wise, this season is just a neutered season four. Less expressive and just uglier in general. Springer episodes are a lot more noticeable, this is a precursor to season six a lot of the time. Overall still serviceable but not near as good as season 4.

Hawaiian music is dead. Cherish the classic Krusty Krab music while you can, because they will soon die, next season. I neglected to mention it last season, but a ton of original tracks were made for season four, during what I assume was the downtime between season three and the movie. They're all great.

So overall, this season is definitely the worst, but it still has its good qualities. I hope season six can improve on the great foundation this show has developed...hehehehe.
