Description
*credit to gadreel for the still life stock: [link] *I'll say it again, this is just a collection of thoughts about color and light that I was thinking about today. I was doing a bunch of color studies and decided just to share some of the stuff I've been thinking about...
This is no. 1 of my inner monologue of useless not-tutorials entitled "Tricks To Make It Look Like You Know What You're Doing."
I will ACTUALLY do some art soon, really, as soon as I solve this paint tool sai problem.

I really like this. I'm not the most observant of people for an artist, so whenever observant people like you put their two cents in, it all adds up to money in the bank (or my mind?) for me!
I love tutorials like these. This may not be one of the longer tutorials but the advice here is rock-solid!

This was very useful! I have issues with my shading sometimes. I found the use of grey between the two colors insightful. I hadn't thought of that before. I understand light and dark balance pretty well but I haven't mastered mood lighting yet.

I'm not sure exactly how you are saying to use grey here but I'm going to play with it and see if it makes sense. Overall though, I think this will be quite helpful. Thank you!

That's pretty cool! I think in itself this is a tutorial because the more you learn about the nature of natural color the more realistic (or even just "the better") you can improve your pieces with. Thanks for sharing!

You put yourself down too much, silly.
Anyways, nifty - I hadn't noticed that lighting tends to make opposite ends of the spectrum before <3 I've already intuitively been doing the "saturated to muted" thing, but everything else has been very handy <3

Awesome tutorial! Am I correct in thinking, according to this, that a red light source will make green-ish shadows?

RIGHT you are my friend. The color scheme of your piece then enters the mix and if green doesn't fit, you just sort of use colors that look generally cooler or, in the context, green, using the theory i glossed over in the "saturation" section
Thanks for your comment!
