Description 3 vital commodities no serious modeller,s workshop should be without.........! The Insanity Continues......just a little gag-shot taken a while ago following the Great Deluge/Perfect Storm in April,2007 before i totally reorganized and rebuilt Thy Dungeon after my basement was flooded! never again,at least i hope not, after over $25,000.00 in waterproofing work........my Da friend Serrishi followed the sturm-und-drang saga of the rebuilding process like a soap-opera devotee, and gave me a healthy measure of much needed encouragement and morale boosting at a time when it really counted.

could you qualify to join your country,s Air Force? good training, and all paid for.

KholdMalik In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-22 16:02:19 +0000 UTC]

I can join all the three branches of Brazilian Armed Forces, but I am a bit pissed with our FAB (because of their stupid, corrupt commanders), our navy sucks (little equipment and the one we have are very weak) and our army doesn't pay well and doesn't use our own (good) stuff, buyin' old stuff from other countries instead...
I will join the police: At least, I will use an russian weapon (If I get to ROTA, a SWAT-like team, I will choose between train with an AK-103, FN-FAL and M-16, witch I will take the first to train, since I have some pratice with my uncle's Krinkov) and the right to choice any sidearm that my money can buy (thinkin' on a Nagant Revolver chambered with its original ammo).

What was damaged in the flooding?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Frohickey [2008-12-01 14:47:04 +0000 UTC]

no models lost or destroyed, thankfully, but we needed to have most of the drywall and studs removed and replaced after the actual waterproofing{French Drain and power-sump} was completed. but it was a hard fight on my part using a small electric pump and a wet/dry shop-vac to hold my own against the incoming water. and what a disaster if it had reached the furnace or electrics! all fixed for good now,and guaranteed for life against any future incidents.

it shouldn,t happen again here. we have had a few heavy rains since the work was done, and no problems. i,d better not see a drop, after what i paid!

TomCatDriver In reply to Popsjr84 [2008-12-02 06:42:33 +0000 UTC]

i have a small room i built in the house with glass shelves, but it,s starting to get a bit crowded too! might be time to move to a bigger place, with an outbuilding just for me and my planes! i had wanted to put up one here but our wonderful Town Council refused a permit.

That kinda sucks. I like model building, but i'm not any good at it and my patience is well... not great. But i do have a few i would like to get finished. I'm really big into WWII planes.

How do you paint your models? Do you use spray or brush??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Popsjr84 [2008-12-04 09:33:56 +0000 UTC]

airbrush,and some details handbrushed.

Popsjr84 In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-05 03:25:57 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Popsjr84 [2008-12-06 02:37:20 +0000 UTC]

the biggest secret to airbrushing is just having one....and once a modeller gets used to it,they become spoilt and can never go back to handbrushing again. besides, real planes are sprayed anyway. can you imagine brush-marks on a model magnified 48,72 or 144 times? they,d look like trenches!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Popsjr84 In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-06 02:38:57 +0000 UTC]

i've seen someone touch up a real plane with a brush... Not one that would be to scale as a model...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Popsjr84 [2008-12-06 03:10:40 +0000 UTC]

but small touch-ups only, not the entire airframe......! another way to touch-up on planes is a Preval spray unit.

Popsjr84 In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-07 15:52:32 +0000 UTC]

yeah, don't know anyone wo is willing to paint an entire airframe with a brush.

it,s been done. sometimes even with rags and/or sponges under wartime conditions in the field.

Popsjr84 In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-09 01:42:38 +0000 UTC]

same aboard a carrier. plus we Swabbos had to deal with salty-air corrosion, and fresh water was strictly rationed.

Popsjr84 In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-11 03:21:44 +0000 UTC]

yeah that would suck... but didn't te carrier's have an on board water purifier. A Desalinatio plant i think is what they are called??

TomCatDriver In reply to Popsjr84 [2008-12-11 09:59:47 +0000 UTC]

yes,but even the latest reverse-osmosis desal equipment can only produce just so much to go around for 6000+ pepole,as well as other needs, and warships are not built for Pleasure Cruises! bang, bang on the metal wall of a shower-stall followed by a snarl from a shipmate/fellow officer..."hey,Axxhole,take a Navy Shower in there!!!!" only use your fair share or else.....

I've had a few days like that in the desert... except they just shut the water off completely.

TomCatDriver In reply to Popsjr84 [2008-12-13 06:09:20 +0000 UTC]

they secured fresh water on the ship sometimes too,and right when some guys were right in the middle of a shower and all lathered up! i learned to keep a bit of water stashed away in a plastic jug to sponge off the soapsuds with,in case of a situation like that!

Popsjr84 In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-13 06:12:11 +0000 UTC]

as long as you,ve got a safe place to store it! shipboard space was,and still is,a bit limited!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Popsjr84 In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-13 15:58:42 +0000 UTC]

yeah, we aren't that limited on space

TomCatDriver In reply to Popsjr84 [2008-12-13 19:48:18 +0000 UTC]

whatever space was originally designed into that ship was all we was,a,gonna get! a very hard and rigid frame, and everything had to take place inside of that frame.

i had intended to make some improvements/upgrades eventually anyway, that storm just simply accelerated the process! but i do have a lifetime guarantee{$25,000 worth!} for a dry-as-a-bone basement....and i did put a copy of it in my bank safe-deposit box too!
