That's very impressive - and shiny too. You wouldn't want to drop it on your foot, though, you'd be impaled to the floor.

that would be something to cry about, wouldn,t it? an expensive and scarce kit too, very hard to replace, not to mention lots of hours of work to build it properly!

I kinda wish I had the chance to be a passenger on one of those. Though I'm not a big fan of flying, has nothing to do with needing my feet on the ground. Just a bit claustaphobic and even the 747 was too small for me lol. I love all of your photos, wonderful angles!

TomCatDriver In reply to Klarenden [2007-12-15 01:51:27 +0000 UTC]

too expensive to operate profitably,so many airlines that were going to get Concordes were forced to cancel due to the skyrocketing fuel prices in the early 1970s. plenty in my gallery, glad you like my stuff! Meow.

But you know what, the US pretty much made USSR go broke. They still are broke. I would be surprised if they made anything new, fast, reliable, and something profitable for their market.

ever see a 1/72 scale supercarrier? someone did a USS NIMITZ with a fiberglass hull for radio control, with a full air wing of planes! imagine just how big a 747 would be in that scale too! almost 5 feet long!

Mach 0.71 are already very cool when sitting in a starting plane, but Mach 2.2 must be soooo awesome!!
Unfortunately i will never have the chance to fly such a uber-mach plane until someone develops one again - and the Concorde looks great - its whole design is just very interesting!!

Last time I heard, the Russian company Sukhoi was developing one. Its name is the Sukhoi-Gulfstream S-21.

Splinter54 In reply to Zepherus [2007-12-03 13:03:54 +0000 UTC]

You seem to be into this, so i ask you something: Is the SU-47 just a project or do they really plan to build that plane?
Because i heard the russians use old german aircraft studies concerning the wingform (by the beans that they are now formed like > and not like <, if left is the nose of the plane)

But great info, thanks!

Zepherus In reply to Splinter54 [2007-12-03 16:23:48 +0000 UTC]

The fact that the Su 47 "Berkut" (Golden Eagle. Or "Firkin" to NATO) has the designation "Su" means that Sukhoi at one point in time thought about making it on a large scale. only one has been built, and it is purely an experimental aircraft. There was a second planed to be built but it was canceled. You are probably right about the German wingform design, it looks like the kind of stuff they were designing towards the end of WW2. (on a different note, the late WW2 German planes ROCK!)

Then again knowing Russia, tomorrow there could be Berkuts flying over Iraq. Which would be very bad, there is only one U.S. plane in the same class, the F-22.

But officially, there is only 1 Berkut, and she is just for expiriments.

Nice. I am not in the theme what concerns Airforce or Marine, but i think i know some things about the ground forces - and concerning the russians using german sources i can say, that they just (2004) made a Camoflage Uniform called Partisan [link] which is like nearly a 1:1 copy of a camotheme the Waffen-SS used in WW2.

Zepherus In reply to Splinter54 [2007-12-03 20:20:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, I think because of the nature of Stalinism (a.k.a. communist dictatorship) they have to make every thing them selves, often copying what has been done before.

Now how does that Concorde model compare in size to the Valkyrie one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Serrishi [2007-12-01 20:14:50 +0000 UTC]

the length is almost identical, but Valkryie has a slightly longer wingspan, and almost half again as much wing area! Valkryie had a straight leading edge Delta wing, whereas Concorde used the curvy ogee planform with conical camber.
