Where do you fly out of?
I saw from a couple of your other posts you were a USAF pilot?
I'm a USAF enlisted working towards a spot.
Nice picture by the way!

What Airline do you fly for?

TomCatDriver In reply to FlukieW [2009-02-05 19:58:33 +0000 UTC]

Continental. i started out as a Grease-Monkey{mechanic} oh-so-long-ago! are you trying for a slot as an officer with the USAF? if so, you may want to try to fly the Boeing C-40 which is simply a militarized 737-700NewGenny,same systems for the most part.

OH MEH GOSH! You are lucky! You are a pilot!!! Is it really hard to become one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to unbridled-mare [2009-01-06 12:12:05 +0000 UTC]

depends on what sort of pilot you want to be. military/naval or airline heavy-jet is tough. but if it,s just a PPL for pleasure flying, not really that hard.

unbridled-mare In reply to TomCatDriver [2009-01-06 21:23:04 +0000 UTC]

More of an airline pilot..

TomCatDriver In reply to unbridled-mare [2009-01-06 22:49:32 +0000 UTC]

that does take a lot of training and hours.

I know, I'm having a blast learning about aviation in college right now. I know it takes a lot of time and money to become a pilot.

I've been working at an airport for a little while now and I get to meet a lot of pilots and they all tell me to go for it, and that they're glad they stuck with it; so I'm going to go for it and give it my all.

TomCatDriver In reply to EnnostielTheAviatrix [2008-12-27 05:33:00 +0000 UTC]

i see it,s Renton Municipal, not that any of my Company,s Big Birds could land there! so,how long have you worked there, and what sort of job is it that you do? college...OK,does your school have any sort of ROTC program? that may be a way around the money aspect, just let Uncle Sam pay for some of your training.

EnnostielTheAviatrix In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-12-27 07:14:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the biggest we have is the 737s but I still love to watch them take off. We get Pilatuses, TBMs, Challengers, Leers, Commanders, and King Airs. I've worked there for about ten months at one of the FBOs. I drive around in the fuel truck and fuel the planes; if there's no one to be fueled I do yard work and various chores.
I've heard of the ROTC program and I'm considering it. Thanks for the suggestion.

TomCatDriver In reply to EnnostielTheAviatrix [2008-12-27 09:03:59 +0000 UTC]

ok,an occasional corporate 737/BBJ then,as i see there is no scheduled commercial service there. looks like you,ve got your foot in the door in this business! ROTC may be a possible option, they will take a piece out of your hide, but well worth it!

The 737s are made and repaired there by the Boeing right by RNT. Thanks for the info.
