Description
overview of Boeing Model 2707 supersonic transport in company House Colors of the late 1960s timeframe. the Boeing project, which was the most likely and promising contender for actual production progressed only as far as the engineering mock-up stage,as did it,s competitors from Lockheed and McDonnell Douglas. North American also had a proposed airliner version of their Mach-3 XB-70 bomber, itself cancelled.Related content

all moulded in fixed position. when Revell made their Boeing SST kit in 1968,it had 2 planes in the box,1 in low-speed mode with everything open and the other in fully swept supersonic configuration.

too expensive, and no public support...that,and the skyrocketing fuel prices of 1973 all combined to seal it,s fate.

The congress canceled the program due to the Tu-144 and Concorde fail.
But this plane with its large capacity (300+ passengers) the ticket price should be 20% above the traditional subsonic planes price (Unlike the Concorde, wich became a expensive jet).

hell yea it woulda worked! It would have owned both the Concorde and the TU-144. As a matter of fact, they'd still be in use today, leaping across the Atlantic and Pacific in a couple hours flat! Thats one thing i hate about the Government. They're quick to fund some country and help raise them up but wont fund nothin that has to do wit making America's companies more productive.

a damn good looking design. I am curious as to how you built it and where you got the design. I would definitely love to have it in my collection in 1/144 scale or even 1/400 scale like a few other large aircraft I own

TomCatDriver In reply to Scud01us [2008-09-10 07:25:13 +0000 UTC]
it,s a reissue of an old Revell kit from 1968,and was available on a limited basis. the design was Boeing,s contender for the cancelled United States SST program of the 1960s. the kit came with 2 planes, one in low speed congiguration, and the other in full supersonic trim.

you are definitely a lucky man to have found one of these kits. I have heard of the USA SST project, but it has been a good number of years now and I have since forgotten what the contenders looked like. Thank you for refreshing my memory.

there were 4 mfgrs. with designs for the SST project,Boeing,s was the most ambitious,a large variable-geometry design,Douglas,s SuperJet had a tailed delta planform, the Lockheed L-2000 was a double-delta copied by the Soviets as the Tu-144 and North American proposed a civil version of their XB-70 experimental bomber.

TomCatDriver In reply to InpuUpUaut [2008-09-07 04:13:07 +0000 UTC]
the nose was hinged to lower for pilot visibility only during low speed flight and ground handling, but it came to a needle-point for supersonic flight.
