Tupolev was notorious for stealing designs, even from other Russians.

This is one of the funkiest planes I've ever seen, like a cross between a A-5 and the XF-108.

but a lot bigger for sure! almost 300 feet long, and equal in weight to a 747.

and intended to cruise at Mach-3....lots of power needed to do that! so many tons of airplane, travelling at the speed of a rifle bullet...!

only so many joules in a gallon/pound of fuel. lots of energy needed to fly supersonic.

It still could! Myself I'd like to see Boeing ressurect the Sonic Cruiser...*cough* I mean CatLiner. BTW CatLiner will be appearing in Takeoff Tales 6, which is going to be set in the future.

idea for a possible storyline/subplot.....a competition between Boeing,s SoniCruiser and Grumman,s CatLiner for a production contract.....but who is to be the Launch Customer?

Will have to have a good think about the plot. Still figuring out the characters. It will be set 50 years in the future and will feature the children of Captain Ringway and Janine, and Captain Kramer. AEROSOL Airlines is still going strong, but has evolved into an air and space airline, with regular flights to the moon, Earth orbits and new service to Mars. The future AEROSOL fleet consists of 1 CatLiner, 1 solar airliner, 1 "Son of Concorde" 1 spacecraft/shuttle, 1 large airship "cruise liner" and 1 Boeing 797. BudJet Airways went bankrupt decades ago, but Captain Kramer's son launched his own spaceline and is eager to launch no frills flights to Mars before AEROSOL does. MAN is now a spaceport as well as an airport and has 6 terminals. Also the story will feature an Aerotrain, which connects MAN with Liverpool and Blackpool airport. Same kind of plot as the other stories - different time.

perhaps. but a very advanced concept, the 2707 would have just blown away the Concorde and Tu-144 if it had been built!

Lockheed,s L-2000 SST design was very attractive too,but the Boeing showed the greatest promise. in some ways, the Soviet plane was a ripoff/copy of the Lockheed double-delta design.
