if only everybody would just pay a fair share.....! our present tax system is just plain out-of-date,and very unfair, shot full of loopholes for some.

and that needs to stop! that shitty qoute came from Leona Helmsley, the former hotel baroness,AKA "the Queen of Mean"{despised by hotel employees} when she got in trouble during the late 80s for tax evasion. dead now,and may she rot in hell too.

tax evasion is bad

especially when others have to pay it all,and the evaders are creeps who have more than they know what to do with.

just plain unfair and rotten. one possible solution may be a form of National Sales/Consumption Tax on new retail goods and services for all. it,s called the FairTax.

anything would be better than the mess we have now. so many taxpayers to keep track of.....! very costly to maintain the IRS in it,s present state. and so many cheats who seem to get away for every one they catch too!

it was a bit of work, but i think it made somebody,s whole day! i had wanted to do something like this for a looooooooong time anyway,a certain Midshipman and a veteran of the 1950s NoNonsenseNavy at COAir just provided the needed bit of inspiration! one of our MX managers at EWR actually worked on some of the older planes in this pic,and his very first jet flight was in a TV-2,in 1955.

lots of possibilities in this hobby for that sort of thing! one very popular and fascinating subject is the "What-If?" 1946 Luftwaffe. so many advanced aerospace ideas from Germany that we still use to this day......!

just about everything. swept wings, delta wing planforms and variable-geometry,along with axial-flow jet engines and a multitude of other ideas. not to mention great advances in rockets that helped put men in space and on the moon.

TomCatDriver In reply to Serrishi [2008-03-13 13:13:15 +0000 UTC]

well worth a look, for sure. i got a bit Creeped Out when i got my copies, just thinking how far ahead of The Allies those guys were, and what might have happened if they had had enough time+resources to get some of that stuff into service! example-Revell made a very nice kit of the proposed Arado E-555 jet bomber, and the box-art showed a formation of those evil bat-winged monsters over Manhattan.......! lots of later US,British and Soviet military aircraft were derived from their ideas.

I remember seeing part of a television show a little while ago, something about "secret aircraft of the Luftwaffe: or something like that. Pretty interesting.

TomCatDriver In reply to Serrishi [2008-03-13 21:02:35 +0000 UTC]

an interesting subject, for sure! so many What-Ifs! we did send a small number of USAAF Lockheed P-80 Shooting Stars to Europe[TOP SECRET] in the closing weeks of hostilities, and at least 2 of them that were based in northern Italy did go looking for a fight with the Luftwaffe, but Fritz apparently didn,t want to come up and play........and the RAF was only a few weeks away from getting their first full-strength squadron of DeHavilland Vampire jet fighters fully operational before Germany threw in the towel. close, but No Cigar.

Isn't there also a big "what if" regarding the Me-262?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Serrishi [2008-03-14 21:15:36 +0000 UTC]

as in "What If" they had gotten enough of them operational and in Full Fighting Trim......! they did build a lot of airframes, almost 1500,but the supply of engines was a bit anemic,as well as dire shortages of suitable fuel and properly trained pilots. BTW,check YouTube,Blue Oyster Cult did a song about the Me-262.....!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Serrishi In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-03-14 23:48:24 +0000 UTC]

Catchy song. Didn't the Me-262 also come too late into the war to make any real difference?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Serrishi [2008-03-14 23:59:46 +0000 UTC]

just a bit too late, for sure. but enough to make an impact on anybody who had to face them in combat!

people just weren,t used to seeing planes without propellers.....! the major powers on both sides did have jet planes in various stages of operation, but mostly experimental, and a very closely guarded secret. most B-17 and B-24 crews did find those late-war German jet and rocket planes very weird and terrifying.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Serrishi In reply to TomCatDriver [2008-03-15 21:55:54 +0000 UTC]

I would think they would find them terrifying!

those Nazi go-buggies did have quite a shock effect on anybody who didn,t know of their existence in the first place. also, many Allied airmen who did encounter them{and survive} were ordered not to talk about it,for fear of lowering morale!
