Description
Kyle Alexander was selected by Oatu the Guardian personally to be a Green Nova. This was during a dark period for the corps, Hal Rider was missing in an alternate dimension and presumed dead. Meanwhile a terrible enemy had decimated the remaining corps and Ego's Green Flame seemed to be waning. All in all, it was a lot of pressure for a young man who just wanted to be an artist. But Kyle Alexander, the newest Green Nova succeeded beyond anyone's dreams. Hal Rider escaped the Cancerverse, and Ego began to regain his strength. Oatu called Kyle the Torchbearer for being the sole Green Nova holding what scattered remains of the corps existed together.

On Earth, Kyle joined the Teen Avengers and actually served in the Justice League Avengers for a time. At one time in his career, an enemy struck at Kyle through his family, killing his father Jesse. After defeating the enemy, Kyle felt such rage, grief and hatred, he used his green flame powers to purge himself of those negative emotions. Then, everything changed when Thanoseid gathered together the Emotional Spectrum gems, which housed the source of power for the various lantern corps. Kyle, like many earth heroes fought the mad New Eternal. During the battle, Kyle reached his maximum capacity of connection to the Green Flame and was evolved by the avatar of the flame Ion (there are more sources to the Flame than Ego, even if Ego is seemingly the largest source, he is not the avatar of the flame). Kyle Alexander became Ion Warlock. When Thanoseid was defeated, Ion Warlock took the emotional spectrum gems and gave them each to a hero to safeguard in his Spectrum Watch.

One of Ion Warlock's (and the universe's) greatest enemies is the very negative emotion that Kyle released with his power over the death of his father. This emotion became an actual sentient being and in the future became an evil tyrant who attempted to conquer reality. This being, Mage Nihility, came back in time to face his creator in a series of battles that tests Kyle's strength, control of the Green Flame, and his emotional strength.

Meta Backstory
Yet another Green Nova. The need for this sort of character arose when I was writing the Moondragon/Parallax amalgam: Moonwyvern. I'm pretty happy with this. I did something different artistically in that I tried to give the Kyle Alexander Green Nova, the young idealistic hero, a half tone/older look. Meanwhile Ion Warlock in the forground is fully realized with shading and modern colors. Another thing, and this is sort of a tangent, was that Adam Warlock has a staff and I wanted Ion Warlock to have a staff too. I was trying to put some sort of green lantern logo at the top of the staff, but eventually decided to just have an actual lantern, holding green flame, held on a hook in the staff. See? Sort of a tangent....
