Description
Sometimes trying to find the password or password hint for a download hosted on Bowlroll.net can be a major hurdle, but Chibi IA shows one way to resolve this connundrum. Works quite often, too. So we thought we'll share. And yes, Chibi IA has decided to use 'that word' again and somehow managed to squeeze it into this short presentation too.
UPDATE
Some people seem to have trouble narrowing down the search results. Try this method:
[ title of model (in Japanese) ] + [ bowlroll file number (5 digits) ]
So for example: bowlroll.net/file/57997
So using the format above this was the search term used: きの式ゆかり穏 + 57997
And it directed the results to this page: seiga.nicovideo.jp/seiga/im450…
(this was the 3rd result of the search result page)'
So using a refined search helps to get to the intended result a lot faster.
Another method is to use:
[ title of model (in Japanese) ] + [ screen name of modeler (from the Bowlroll page) ]
This method helps to narrow the search especially in instances where the model has a common name such as that of a popular anime character.

Basically it's asking for the name of a place in I believe Kanji.

Whenever I try to do it, not only do the translations make no sense. But I keep getting this as opposed to the actual page: i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab…

Well the translation actually does may sense. It tells you what the password is: a 7 letter word for a limousine maker (ie. BENTLEY)

The auto-translators work by making literal translations. You have to use those to make sense of the meaning. Sorry but there's no easy solution to this other than to perhaps learn the language being translated. And if you don't want to do that, the only other alternative is to try and figure out the meaning.

I think being able to read a little bit of katanaka and hiragana can go a long ways. For example: パス = pasu = password. LEARN TO RECONGIZE THOSE TO CHARACTERS AND YOU SHALL FIND EVERY PASSWORD HINT/PASSWORD. You don't need to translate it at all. Just wherever you see those 2 characters, and even then, only the sentence. I believe it makes it more confusing if you translate the whole description.

Aye, the more you know the easier it gets. Those passwords are really only a big hindrance to those of us outside of Japan due to our ignorance of their language, but for a native speaker its a mere formality.

As an option, you could click "To the user page", then "To Twitter page" and here some MMDers may have links to their NicoNico right in their profile.

This doesn't resolve passwords, just finding them or the hints to get them.

Yah, When taken in that context, it's more like something Chibi Gumi would say. The infamous Chanel incident comes to mind: "You reek and we don't. [Retread.]" It was unspoken, but you know Chibi Gumi was thinking it.

Going on author's twitter also works often [at least for me]. Since every Bowlroll is connected to author's twitter account and they often post download announcements there. There are also links to their blogs/webpages/nicoaccounts in the description often, so even if there's not a direct link you can just look through those and see if there's anything related.
Of course it's not as straightforward as "copy&paste the title and voila you have the same exact page", but that doesn't always work. Not to mention sometimes password hints are really hard and you don't have to be "retarded" to have a problem with them.

Trackdancer In reply to Beikonated [2014-11-22 23:27:05 +0000 UTC]
A lot of people know about the 'goto the author's twitter' method so it wasn't worth mentioning. But it is a valid and useful route. But I just prefer more direct search methods and the way I do it gets me where I want to go a lot faster usually.
As for password hints, yes, there are some which will defeat those of us who are not natives of Japan or in some cases, have keyboards that cannot type Kanji or whatever script they use over there.
As for 'that word' - I've found that it gets a lot of people in a huff, which is fun, so she'll be using it for awhile yet. Mind you, its also got the effect of adding a lot of names to my block list. Wonder why that's the case ... ? Well actually, I know why. That word is useful for identifying and filtering out hypocrites and I really don't like hypocrites ...
BTW, love that certificate you have on your front page, seems like you have an offbeat sense of humor too.

Beikonated In reply to Trackdancer [2014-11-22 23:38:06 +0000 UTC]
It will take me forever to figure out how being upset about you misusing the word "retard" is a sign of being a hypocrite and deserving to be blocked. I am not here to give you lectures, see if I care. I may also be a "retard" then, because I often find it hard to solve a password hint and I have to ask others for help if that's what your implying. Never mind that though.
MMD passwords tend to be based on a certain knowledge of the related item. Like in your case the date. It can be hard as well for some people, especially those who don't know where exactly to look for it. So it's not like only kanji/hiragana based passwords are hard. Those are actually sometimes pretty easy if you use the right tools to decode it. The hardest thing right now is the fact that available translators tend to be very bad with building proper sentences from Japanese to English, which ends up in gibberish. I am pretty sure that if the text would be translated correctly, it would be much easier to connect some facts and build up the password.

Trackdancer In reply to Beikonated [2014-11-22 23:57:51 +0000 UTC]
I don't misuse my words, I'm actually very careful with my use of the English language.
People get blocked when they make a personal attack - that's the only way to get a block from me. I don't mind if people have a contrary POV. We're all different and have different life experiences, education, etc. Its' OK to argue with me, in fact I welcome it as it can be a constructive process for both sides. But I don't make personal attacks such as calling people names or making rude inferences as to their intellect, personality or character.
Also, although, Chibi IA uses the word 'retard", if people pay close attention, it is never actually directed at any one specifically (except chibi Miku or chibi Gumi who are not real people).
As for the translators, I agree with what you wrote. However, sometimes it helps to break up long sentences or passages into shorter segments and feed these into the translator one portion at a time. Especially with technical writings, this tends to help the original meaning come through.
There's also another method to resolve an unsolvable password hint ... hmmm ... but it works so well, I'll keep that one to myself.
