Description
Ani-Chan discussing a serious topic for a change. Some of you may know this already, but I use a Sony Vaio laptop for my MMDing and it has had its share of overheating issues, so I've learnt a lot from having to deal with this problem myself and developed methods to mitigate the issue. The solutions that worked for me are outlined in the tutorial above. On an unrelated note, I am beginning to really like this Ani-Chan model by *Digitrevx . At first I had thoughts of mixing her in with Miku and the rest of the gang in their comedic misadventures; but she lends herself especially well as a character that can host a lot of the tutorials that I do. Might make her a semi-permanent feature in this role. I was thinking of perhaps even taking the MMD Help Center concept further (although the idea began as a joke); might be worth the effort of actually building a set for the role. It's been awhile since I've designed or built an interior set and something along the lines of a TV studio type setting might be fun to do.
What do you guys think of this idea?

I just confirmed my assumptions, when in Low Power mode, the physics are only activated when the mouse or keyboard is used, it will just be idle when not in use.

Late comment, I know, however even though I don't have many overheating issues with my laptop, this will help ease the strain when working on videos.

Also you should close all the browser windows, because websites like DeviantArt, Facebook, YouTube etc can also overload CPU and memory.

doΒ you know how to remove the line you get when you make clothing or other stuff in meta if i export it to X and then load it on a model i always get a line at the front dead center -.-".
do you know how to fix it ?

Sorry I don't use meta - but post a pic to one of the help centers in an MMD group - someone will probably know how to fix this.

I was thinking about using Asakura Misaki for sometime too, as she's an absolutely stunning model. Not sure what yet, but characterwise her design lends itself towards a "tsundere" type simply because that's not the first thing you'll think of when looking at her - and that's going to make her fun. Besides which, I've never really explored the tsundere character style in my writings.

Yeah she kinda does have that no mess around tsundere type of thing. She has a very sharp and contrasty look about her face too to me. I feel I should have made the eye brows blue btw. My only fear with her is the ribbons and skirt. Its once of those characters that has a limited range before clipping issues. Its sort of a illustration is easier drawn then made into animated model with mmd's technology and part learning experience. :/

Actually, scratch the tsundere idea (at least for now). Whilst I took the dog out for a walk I came up with a much, much better idea. I've been messing on and off with a certain song by a certain singer for a couple of months now. Problem was finding the right model to pull off a Celine Dion classic. I toyed with using Tda's Miku to do this, but she's Miku and it just doesn't jive.
So I have just spent a couple of long minutes looking really hard at Asakura Misaki in both MMD and MOGG Voice & Lips. Up
close she shares some similarities to Tda Miku, but the thing is she isn't Miku, the mood of the song is "blue", Asakura Misaki doesn't have her own voice, she looks gorgeous in her own right; so she's the perfect candidate for this project.
This will take awhile though, but it will be worth the effort at the end. She's (both the model and it's design) has got
everything needed to pull this off successfully. One of the things that I've always wanted to do is to create an original, English language, diva style song performance animation. Celine Dion doesn't move around much when performing in general, which is actually a challenge in itself to animate as over the course of a three to five minute song, that's a long time span for an MMD model to be standing in one spot. But I've always maintained the belief that if a human diva can do it, we should be able to mimic (and I mean that in a nice way) that type of a performance with an MMD model.
For reference you might want to have a peep at a 60 second experiment that shows you the type of performance style I'm talking about. The clip uses Kanihira's Rhea singing another song, but the thinking behind this is the same:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWTprj...
It'll take about a week's worth of solid animation work, and that's not going to happen right now, but I will definitely be putting this down as a "must do" project before the end of the year. My apologies for the long post here, but I'm really fired up now that I've found the perfect model to do this finally. And if this was a real audition, Asakura Misaki has already beaten out at least a dozen other contenders that I've considered for the role, several of which are "household names".
The "limited range before clipping issue" won't be an issue as the animation will be tailor made for the model plus the song doesn't require extreme movements so that completely rules out that issue as a concern anyway.

Yeah I see what you mean, and it sounds like a cool idea when you get to it!
With custom animation it really helps. That's one the the hard things about a mmd model I never had to worry much about making video games. All our animations where custom so we never clipped much because we had the power to avoid it. With mmd you truly have to make a bullet proof model because thousands will throw dozens of animations at the model and it has to not look terrible. I simply can't test every animation but I try my best when it comes to characters that haven't been tried and tested in the 3d world.
If you need a custom Misaki for it I'm sure I can change a thing or two. Like a expression or whatnot.
I really hope in the future I can resolve some of the issues I encountered with her dress. It bothers me I still am not sure of a solution for it. :/

My old laptop would overheat often...and it soon had a phase of doing a shutdown once in a while. Then it soon just shutdown forever. It would never charge again, I brung it to a shop, and they say that my hard drive or something burned up. :c

I keep trying to read the text, but my eyes just keep going to Ani-Chan. Either way, a nice tutorial for those with lesser powered systems.
Fortunately for me, my laptop doesn't overheat. Quad Core Intel i3 running at 2.27Ghz and 6 GBs of RAM. The heat sinks Wrap around my CPU the fans and then connect to exhaust ports in the back.

Overheating shouldn't be so much of an issue with more contemporary laptops - especially one that's built with specs like yours. Quad Core? I'm still using Dual Core; man I need to upgrade bad - LOL.

I'm using quad core i5 and 4GBs of RAM, but mine overheats rather easily recently, especially when running MMD or some other active programs. Could run them smoothly before but now, it runs them quite sluggishly =.=

Yea, check your vents. Mine was getting hot till I cleaned out about 3 years worth of dust buildup, been running cold ever since. Even when running a high end game like Crysis 2 or 3 it gets to about 68ish degrees Celsius max.

See if your vents/fan are not all clogged with dust. Also you might want to do a thorough virus scan.

Things that bogs down systems are virus and trojans - assuming that it's not a hardware issue.Β
AVG isn't the best for detecting Trojans, you might need to grab hold of Spybot if you don't have it already. Quick and dirty way to check is to not connect the PC to a network and see if there's a difference in the performance. It's not foolproof but I can give you a clue. Ideally, you want to have an app that monitors what packages are being sent out/received of your PC by what programs.
Then again, you might just be running out of disk space, there's not enough virtual memory, or just plain dust bunnies clogging your vents/fan. A good old fashion defrag can also work wonders as well as cleaning out your registry and hard drive of junk.

That's a good thing - the culprit now might just be dust bunnies - something that a good vacuum cleaner can easily take care of.
