Description
Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!I had a lot of reservations about doing this type - I know that Goths seem to hate being associated with Emos, and vica versa. But because I've had so many comments mentioning Emos, I thought that it really had to be done.
Sorry that this has been a long time in coming, and that it's drawn even sloppier than usual... I've been revising for and doing my university final exams for the past month, and I've only just had a break...

I agree with you. Is so annoying having people comparing emos with goths, most of the people think they're the same.
But if you look again the tittle says "stereotype" what it means this is not actualy a real type of goth. Is just a joke.....(isn't it??)

that is not all true, '
there is a big difrence between emo, and poser, they way that is worded, it seems you go the 2 mixed up

Well one of the issues is that emos tend to say they're not emo, because saying you're emo automatically makes you a poser. A poser, on the other hand, seems to be a person who's trying to be emo, which somehow means they can't be by dint of needing to try... correct me if I'm wrong.

well, that i not always the case, some emo's are tired of being teased and just say there goth, but some haven't been teased and don't mind admitting to it, but yea a poser would easily say there emo, but only to get attention.

sadisticlolita13 In reply to sadcherrie [2008-12-21 05:01:53 +0000 UTC]
But what's a poser? If a person didn't want attention from anyone, they wouldn't bother dressing up to show their personality, as emos apparently do. They wouldn't care about it enough to dress up. If a person dresses the way a mini-subculture dresses, listens to the music, knows about it and wants to be in it, how are they not part of it?

a poser is a person of whom doesn't want to be them self and will act like something they are not, posers might dress as skaters, emos, goths, jocks, stoners, headbangers or any other stereotype.
posers, when they pose emos, don't necessarily just dress like them, it depends on the person, if they want a little attention they will dress emo and SAY they like to were black, and SAY they like screaming metal death music, even if they really don't, whereas, if they feel like they need ALLOT of attention, they will do all that, AND cut them self and show it to every one so people can go "Oh, why did you do that? does it hurt? you poor poor guy/girl" and then they get smothered in affection, and attention

Ah, I see. Well said.
I think that's how I see anyone in a ten-minute fad, though. I know an emo who, before it became popular, looked exactly like a sufer-boy, the previous fad, and then one day came to school with his hair black, slicked down, and with the whole hoodie skinny-jeans combo. I've yet to meet an emo who dresses the way they do because they're being original and expressive about themselves, since they all look basically the same, and only started once it was well known. Being original means dressing the way you want, and putting some effort into it if that's your style.

i know, see, most emo kids these days are posers, but then again, some kids think they aren't posers, even if they are, what i mean is, *s about to use an analogy* imaging you and a sibling of yours -if you have one- are home alone and hungry, you look through your cabinet and get some chips. you sibling looks and thinks, "those chips look good" and eat some, you could do 1 of 2 things, you can A) don't bother with t, its there choice,
or
B) say they are copying you.
the point is, some emo kids are only emo cause they think its the best way to deal with there problem. if any of this makes sense

I guess that's asking the question 'is a fashion a way of life?' in a way. If a poser is someone who dresses a certain way (in this case emo) solely for the perks of being emo... actually... people actually do that? I'm writing on the assumption that a poser would be a person who dresses emo so they can act emo, because that's what they want, but are being told off for trying too hard, or something. But... the thought that someone would sacrifice their individuality, personality, hell, their identity for the sake of attention... that totally confounds me. I'm have a little trouble making sense of that, it seems like such an insane, alien thing to do...
Right. I think I understand what you're saying now... that's sort of nuts... but it makes sense... O_o. Thanks for laying it out like that. I still don't like emo as a style for a whole lot of reasons, but I get how people think of posers now. I can't believe anyone would be willing to do that...

i know, but you cant understand every thing all the time, some times you just gotta, go with it i guess, though it would be nice to get the point of view from every one on the stereotypes they may be categorized into, but also you cant judge someone by the way they dress.
also, there are some people who love they style of goths, and or emos, and were it but don't act it, what i am trying to say is, there are goths, and posers and then there are people who just like the style. if that makes sense

You know, I've always viewed Emo as a lighter, more emotional side of Goth. (Hence, the name.)
I used to be called Goth in middle school; then, in high school, I started getting called Emo. *shruggs* I guess it really depend on the people labeling you. I've really started to hate labels, though. >.> With a PASSION!!! I love this series, though. ^^ I love how you talk about the different labels without insulting anyone.

emo is a great new culture and we need to wait and see what it evolves into. goth and emo fashion/music is pretty much the same, but it really the idea that counts. goths in general tend to be more dramatic and look better when they wear their clothes. goth can also be carried into older ages like 'corp' goth. Emo cant last that long. new emo focuses on anxiety and pain and talentless lyrics (search Three Days Grace) emo is really growing, and is very attractive to middle-class white kids because people say they dont have probems!!! that IS the problem!!! when you got a problem you can put your head in your hands and say 'im gonna do this' but when you dont have a problem, what then? nothing to do... all the amazing stories you hear are about the little guy taking down the big one. what if your in the middle? plus all the teen anxiety etc. adds to emo. Emos cry when crap happens. goths get mad or ignore it.
i love emo (hence the name) no offence to ANYONE. except parents who dont understand it.

As a little interesting data, the emo "movement" is not as new as it appears.
A similar ideology appeared around 16 century when it came fashionable for youngsters to be shown in melacholic poses, as a projection of being submerged in romantic or philosophical thoughts.
After that, the romanticism came around 17/18 centuries (if I'm not mistaken) and with it the work of J.W Goethe " Sorrows of Young Werther" (a pre-emo work, if you study it carefully).
So in the end, that ideology is such an old thing that seems to be new.

I love this series! You seem to point out the stereo types without actually insulting the crap out of peoples fashions or living types, which is defiantly wise and very mature of you.
Now if we could just ditch all the stereo typing, people like me who like half of those things on this list would live quite happily without people coughing 'emo' under their breaths.
Your series is great and I'm adoring the style of the little people, very cute and gets across the styles oh so well.

I definetly love this! Though in my opinion, I don't have anything against dark types, or emos and goths. I think that emos are really like, the "lighter" side of a goth, but still may have some gothic roots to them. The only thing I hate is when people just hate emos for no reason. Or anyone who judges someone as an emo before they even get to know them. At my school, I'm randomly called an emo because I just like the color black. Emo/Goth is like being a crime in my schooll because all the kids say that if you act dark or whatnot, you just want attention. Hating an emo/goth/punk etc. is really like prejudice in a way. Some People today hate people because they are black or white and for no other reason. Hating soemone because they are goth/emo/punk etc. is somewhat the same. Love your Goth Type series btw Trellia!

emo goths are really not even supposed to be called goths for they obviously have a more emo element to them.
and i have to agree with someone that commented.
MCR is not emo, they are only labeled that by their image that these emo kids expliode and them call it emo. the media is partially fault to this (but the people that believe it and don't take the time to research really are too) MCR is far from real emo.
