Description Read below for any common mistakes.

I'm disabling comments, because I don't have the time any more to go through each question and comment I get sent to me on here. Chances are, by the time I answer any questions, the problems are already probably fixed.

And as I promised in the tutorial... Here's the Action script crap to copy and paste in:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

on(press) {
startDrag(this);
}

on(release) {
stopDrag();
Mouse.show();
}

on(rollOut)
{
Mouse.show();
}

on(releaseOutside) {
stopDrag();
}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have fun!

The program used was Macromedia Flash MX 2004
Having a lot of people asking what Flash was. xD

If you want to download that specific version, all you have to do is google "Macromedia Flash MX 2004 trial". Simple as that.

*It seems some people are having issues with the coding, mostly people with the more recent Flash programs. So if you're having problems with getting the scripting to work, and you have one of the latest programs, chances are the script I posted up here ain't gonna work.

I suggest asking on Newgrounds.com's forum for any extra help with that. As I know nothing about the new versions.

BUT this might work for ya instead:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

on(press) {
startDrag(this);
}

on(release) {
stopDrag();
}

on(releaseOutside) {
stopDrag();
}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, for gods sake, please make sure you paste the code on the actual object, rather than the actual layer, or it just wont work. Too many people have asked me why nothing will move, only to find that they had pasted the code on the layer instead of the object.

AND for people with the new version of Flash, this may help with the code problem, but I know nothing of it:

Quoted from ohyoshimi.
"you should note that this is actionscript 2.0, and if people are using cs3 to make sure they create an actionscript 2.0 file, because in 3.0 it will not work."

cool where do you get the flash program?

TricksyPixel In reply to angiebooo [2007-10-08 14:23:35 +0000 UTC]

The exact version I use is Macromedia Flash MX 2004, and you can download a trial here -> [link]

Or you could download a newer trial version of Flash from Adobe's website. Though the codes used in this tutorial won't work on it to my knowledge.

I make everything that you say in the tutorial, paste the right code, etc.. but when I publish, put online and try to play my clothes does not move D:

TricksyPixel In reply to milerubi [2007-10-04 02:29:01 +0000 UTC]

Have you tried previewing it in Flash while you're making it first?

It could be possible that you're putting the code on the actual layer the clothes are on rather than the clothing themselves.
If that's the case, you'll notice on your layer's frames that it will have an extra little sign on it, like an "a". Just make sure you selected the clothes rather than just clicking on the layer to select everything.

TricksyPixel In reply to animepanda94 [2007-09-30 02:13:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.

Yeah, Flash costs heaps.. Even on Macs, it still costs 700 US dollars. D=

Buuuut, I'm not so sure about this, but I'd bet that there are people selling older versions than the latest one on Ebay. ^^ They'd probably be a lot cheaper on there.

TricksyPixel In reply to Punkuu [2007-09-28 10:13:14 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty positive you'll find a working one if you ask on the newgrounds.com forum in the flash board section. There's bound to be someone who knows cs3 codes there.

jaken-rox In reply to ??? [2007-09-26 15:55:48 +0000 UTC]

It really helped me!!! I have a question though... umm I drew all the clothes in photoshop and I just copy and paste where you say to draw the clothes but then I get this big white rectangle that covers up the face when I try to put the clothes on....what do I do about that??? If you understand (wow that was a horrible description of my problem....) oh and by the way your tutorial was awesome

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TricksyPixel In reply to jaken-rox [2007-09-27 03:14:10 +0000 UTC]

When you're saving the clothes you created in photoshop, make sure there is no white background on them, so it's transparent right? Then save them as .png files. They should keep the transparent background when you import them to the stage in Flash.

Well no, I haven't bothered making a stop start button for music in a Flash before. Try ask on Newgrounds.com's flash board on their forums.

awesome tutorial. Way better than the tutorials my teacher was having us look at which are for older versinos of flash and becuase of this have things with different names than our versions. This is very easy to understand and helpful.and you actualystate where the heck you put teh action script! : D not just "Now type the folowing into your action script." I hope teach let's me use this tutorial for our flash game thing.

TricksyPixel In reply to RexT-Rex [2007-09-15 05:15:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was trying to make it so practically anyone can understand. I hope it works for your version though. Newer versions have slightly different coding apparently.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RexT-Rex In reply to TricksyPixel [2007-09-15 12:04:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, my friend tried to use it and it didn't work. We even tried the other version fo the code you had. I guess we'll have to find the most up to date coding. But atleast you have teh easiest tutorial to understand. I garuntee we'll still be using your tut.

FAV'D SINCE THIS HELPED! (another tutorial I was trying to use either everything moved at once since it didnt include the "this" part... or it refused to let me save it as a .swf due to errors XD (the other one called for button within movie clip, which made it go wonky with errors D8) ) >3 still designing clothes, I'll link you when its done if you want 8D

Ooo, yes please. I'd love to see it. ^_^ I'm real glad it worked for you. I get a lot of people saying the codes don't work, due to the fact that they're using newer or old as versions. xD
