Description Read below for any common mistakes.

I'm disabling comments, because I don't have the time any more to go through each question and comment I get sent to me on here. Chances are, by the time I answer any questions, the problems are already probably fixed.

And as I promised in the tutorial... Here's the Action script crap to copy and paste in:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

on(press) {
startDrag(this);
}

on(release) {
stopDrag();
Mouse.show();
}

on(rollOut)
{
Mouse.show();
}

on(releaseOutside) {
stopDrag();
}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have fun!

The program used was Macromedia Flash MX 2004
Having a lot of people asking what Flash was. xD

If you want to download that specific version, all you have to do is google "Macromedia Flash MX 2004 trial". Simple as that.

*It seems some people are having issues with the coding, mostly people with the more recent Flash programs. So if you're having problems with getting the scripting to work, and you have one of the latest programs, chances are the script I posted up here ain't gonna work.

I suggest asking on Newgrounds.com's forum for any extra help with that. As I know nothing about the new versions.

BUT this might work for ya instead:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

on(press) {
startDrag(this);
}

on(release) {
stopDrag();
}

on(releaseOutside) {
stopDrag();
}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, for gods sake, please make sure you paste the code on the actual object, rather than the actual layer, or it just wont work. Too many people have asked me why nothing will move, only to find that they had pasted the code on the layer instead of the object.

AND for people with the new version of Flash, this may help with the code problem, but I know nothing of it:

Quoted from ohyoshimi.
"you should note that this is actionscript 2.0, and if people are using cs3 to make sure they create an actionscript 2.0 file, because in 3.0 it will not work."

No idea, never tried making one on a Mac. I'm assuming the coding would be the same though.

well, it might run slower and all... just wondering.

Wouldn't it run faster on a Mac? I just always assumed Macs ran programs smoother.

can you put a picture in this program and add the clothes part?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TricksyPixel In reply to gaarawuver1289 [2007-09-11 05:41:36 +0000 UTC]

You can draw clothes or the dolls in photoshop, and just make sure the background is transparent, then save them as .png files. That way when you import them into Flash, the backgrounds will stay transparent, and you can do the same thing to them, like turn them into a symbol and add the code onto it so they move.

what if u dont have photo shop? I can go download it, but i dont know f my lab top can take that much data, can u do it in paint? or from a picture you have already drawn?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TricksyPixel In reply to gaarawuver1289 [2007-09-12 08:11:00 +0000 UTC]

Hmm.. Paint can't make transparent backgrounds, so you'd have to actually draw the pictures in Flash itself.

how do you color the object?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TricksyPixel In reply to gaarawuver1289 [2007-09-10 09:01:47 +0000 UTC]

Before you turn it into a symbol, and have drawn the line art of the clothing/object, just use your paint bucket tool (probably k or g on your keyboard hotkeys) and fill the inside of the line art in.

Yeah, Photoshop is only used for editing/creating pictures. You'd have to get Flash.

Uhhh I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean what program? Or do you mean how do you open a new page?

To make a new page just go to file and new, and select flash document.

I haven't ever really bothered trying to make a Flash where you can pause and start music, but if you just want music constantly running in the background, from memory you just go to File> Import to library > and then just choose the music from your computer.

Then in your library (you might have to open it up under the Window list if it's not already open) and I think you just drag it into a new layer. Just keep that layer just for the music.

If it doesn't work.... >> I might just have to open up an old Flash I made with music to see what I did. xD Sorry, haven't done it in ages.

I just don't get how to color clothes. D: You sayd in one comment that you need to use some kinda of color pucket or what ever is it but what is that color thing? I tried paint my clothes whit brush tool on the same layer wher the clothes line is but when I try to move it its just the color which is moving not the line. x_X Meaby I'll do something frong.
Please help me because I really want to do my own dress up game.
And btw, my english is not the best one.

TricksyPixel In reply to Aavikkosukeltaja [2007-09-08 02:39:25 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's just a little icon that looks like a paint bucket. I'm just guessing the hot keys are the same as mine, so it should come up if you press either K or G on your keyboard. One of the two.

this is really helpful :3 how do you upload it to DA tho?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TricksyPixel In reply to Spongeaq [2007-08-31 13:53:37 +0000 UTC]

You gotta publish your flash file as a .swf file, then upload that to DA, and then add a preview image of 100x100 pixels jpeg or gif. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spongeaq In reply to TricksyPixel [2007-08-31 14:04:11 +0000 UTC]

k lemmie try it, if there are any errors will it not let you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TricksyPixel In reply to Spongeaq [2007-08-31 14:07:55 +0000 UTC]

If you get errors when previewing your flash? Not sure what that'd do if uploaded to DA. I guess what ever was making the error will just not work.
