According to the wiki, her canon name is "Mayor Mare", which adds all kinds of screwy when you consider that her name matches a job that either elected or appointed (depending on the system in place), and is decidedly something that you have to prove yourself at first.
Mind you, my theory is that ponies can choose to change their names at different stages of their lives to match who they are now (which would similarly explain how everyone has suspiciously appropriate names for things that absolutely could not be suspected just after birth).
