The last few nights and days seemed to melt away like the spring snow, as Ahnah found the time alone with Nika in the wold a refreshing change of pace. Nika's unique take on the world, from her experiences traveling throughout Asia, raiding a Narashinga fighting pit and taming wild horses in the Midwest, she never seemed to run out of stories. Ahnah felt as if she had little to contribute to the conversation, but she was more of a listener anyhow, and didn't feel bogged down by it. Nika was happy to keep talking, distracting Ahnah from her recent loss at work, and talking excitedly of Karenina's future offspring. Ahnah was thrilled to have found a suitable male for her dear Nina, and did find it in her to talk at length about how she imagined the pups might look.

That morning they woke early, before the sun peeked above the horizon. This would be the last stretch of their journey, and Ahnah found herself wishing it wouldn't end. She smiled wistfully as she lingered in the warmth of their shared sleeping bag, Nika already preparing a light breakfast for them with the kerosene stove. The tokotas were both awake, scarfing down frozen caribou that had been obtained the day prior.

"Rise and shine sleepyhead." Nika laughed, handing Ahnah a steaming mug of tea. "And I thought you were the morning person."

Ahnah yawned "I am whatever time of day person people need me to be." She sipped the warm liquid thankfully. "As long as there is some caffeine involved..."

The two women quickly broke camp after their modest meal, packing their belongings into Eyre's sled, and lashing them up to prepare for the escapade. They started at a decent pace, both tokotas pushing to move forward, as if they knew the trek was nearly complete. Eyre, though a lot smaller than Nika's yeti boy, had no trouble keeping pace pulling Ahnah in the light sled. The little tundra female was full of spirit, eagerly running through the snow drifts as the yeti bounded after them. Tartuffe had taken a few spills, but was doing better now, as Nika anticipated the terrain, following alongside or behind Eyre, who was a bit more deft at navigating the more challenging areas.

As the sun rose over the snow, the tundra coats of the two animals illuminated pink and white, contrasting the purples and blues cast in the shadows of the snow. As Ahnah looked up toward Nika, a halo seemed to appear around her face, and Tartuffe's, and she sensed a stirring feeling she was not used to, but certainly knew its meaning. She blushed beneath her fur-lined hood, before giving Eyre the signal to speed up. The little female agreed with her handler, and galloped forward, the sled pulling in front, Ahnah's braids whipping free from the hood as they sped onward. Nika let Tartuffe run freely, now, as they were in the flatter, snow-covered meadow, his clumsy gait unhindered in the soft snow drifts as they charged toward their destination. They were still free, running with abandon, for a little while longer...
