Wow...that doesn't even make a little sense...
I still love DA though.

I only reported things that I had proof where stolen, or where misplaced.

It's the only reason I know, but apparently, if you report to many art thefts you can be banned for that as well. I guess that 1000 strong police force for the 14 million users of dA is, again, trying to avoid work.

deviantART seems to be a bitch about their members in terms of rule breaker dignity. A few years ago, people got in trouble for reporting art thieves on this site on the forums. Apparantly you are not allowed to point out an art thief if they're a member of dA.
And then there's the tolerated hate art and the absurd rule of "no body fluids" (so I can't draw a dog pissing against a post? No sweating athlete?).
deviantART is my favorite website, I've been a subscriber for years, a member for 7 years even, but the rules and their enforcement has become more random than the victims of the late Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Excuse my language, but that is the most asinine thing I have ever seen. Reporting too many violators of the rules means that you lose that right to do so?
If they were doing their job, there wouldn't be so many of them. Something needs to change on this site, and it needs to change pronto. We need more admins, first of all. We need a suggestion that I have as a stamp (see my page for that if you want), and we need this kind of thing to stop or else dA will forever be a total joke. And we cannot allow that. This is unacceptable. Period.

I said the same thing to them. They essentially told me to shut up and said they weren't going to hire more than a thousand people to police the fourteen million (or so) people that comprises their userbase. It would cut into their profit margin.

That's BS, and I'll tell you why. There are 15 million people on this site- surely they could find a few volunteers.

VacuityMechanica In reply to Starlow-FTW [2011-04-29 04:46:00 +0000 UTC]
People have tried to volunteer. dA basically said they couldn't trust the userbase to police itself, despite the fact that they ask us to any way (the whole 'mistrust the entire userbase' thing is kind of insult to us).
Then they went ahead and established that 'no more than one report of any kind' rule, which disables a persons ability to report a work that's already been reported. That's just as stupid as their 1000 search limit thing. What's even more annoying is they don't announce that - you have to be following one of the staffs specific dA page in order to know via their journal.
dA has build an empire on bullshit, and it's one proverbial matchstick away from going up in flames.

The'yre right about the website not being able to police itself. If it did, a jealous artist could make a bunch of profiles and keep putting tallies (or whatever) against a successful deviation until it was deleted.

Oh right, because we're all immature and petty children that can't stand it when other people get more attention than us.
Thanks for the complement!

Actually, a few of us are. One of them got a few of their cronies to report me (three times to my face, probably more behind me) because I didn't bow down and kiss their feet like all of the others.
I believe that people think (including the admins) like this because of a few trolls and everything that just want people that don't listen to them gone. I mean, really, if you got an admin like that half of us would be dead and the other 40% would be dying. The bad is ruining the reputation of the good.
Huh. Only now did I see that the comment below me basically rephrased what I said exactly...
But getting banned from reporting FOR reporting is pathetic. If they don't want to do the work, who not just say it to our faces instead of eliminating the ones that try to help?

I didn't say that at all. Contrary to the popular saying, it would only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch in this case. The vast majority of DA might be perfectly honest and respectful, but one spiteful malcontent can screw up things for a lot of people.

Starlow-FTW In reply to VacuityMechanica [2011-04-30 20:13:43 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. Well, I believe that needs to change. I feel bad for the newer admins-they are fighting an uphill battle with deviantART.
They really could get a lot of volunteers who would work harder than any payed ones. Just look at this page! Every outraged commenter could be viable to be a volunteer admin, and they could make it temporary if they're so worried about people abusing the admin's power! But dA has gotten lazy. It's about money, now, and how to get more of it with the least amount of effort.
I love dA, but some of its policies rub me the wrong way.

I told them that if they didn't take down their stolen work/correctly file their misplaced work, the deviantART Moderators would delete it and, possibly, their account as well.

They obviously had a good enough reason so suck it up. You have to understand far to many people flood the Help Desk with reports but they don't have any evidence to back up their claims and you obviously fall into that category, just be thankful you didn't get your account banned. Also why did you post this anyway? just to get attention or something? if so then well done :/
