Description
A simple boolean technique for Bryce users.Enjoy it, and let me know if you have any difficulties!
As always, be creative and have fun!
EDIT: This tutorial was made with a symmetrical camera view, so you will need to drag the torus onto the sphere in Default mode. HOWEVER, I have now added a ZIP file with this tutorial and a .br5 file called SYMMETRY, which is perfect for this tutorial as well as symmetrical abstracts

Can anyone tell me why when I try to save an object Bryce crashes every single time. I can't advance with this program much further If i can't create my own boolean setsΒ

I honestly have no idea why that is happening, although I can remember it crashing from time to time, mostly from really high-poly scenes. You are better off using Blender for something like this, it's actually more suitable for doing operations like boolean

Just found this, and learned so much more about Bryce. It's pathetic how much I didn't know--I didn't even notice the A's and G's attached to the objects before! lol
Thank you very much for this tutorial, I've played around with it here: [link]

Thank you! I took some other boolean tuts and combined the knowledge here, easy was indeed what I was going for, I can't stand tutorials that are difficult. Have fun!

Feel like I've been working with Bryce forever. You've just taught me some thing I should have learned to do ages ago.
If you've got any other mesh-tricks like that I'd love to know them .

Looking forward to what you make! Make sure you download the zip file, it has a perfect symmetry camera already set up for you.

You're welcome! This is actually an update, I added a symmetrical .br5 file inside the download. So now you are ready to make things like this: [link] but it's also great for anything else. I only use the camera view on my Bryce work, it's so much easier to keep things in order.

skyzyk In reply to VickyM72 [2010-04-18 17:11:09 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, Vicky can this be applied to Bryce 6.3? I'm finding that most of the resources for Bryce are br5. I'm also wondering if I shouldn't have stuck with the free version.

VickyM72 In reply to skyzyk [2010-04-18 17:16:57 +0000 UTC]
It's all the same, the buttons, everything. Also, All of the newer versions can open .br5 files, so you're good to go!

Nice tut! And as a sidenote, if you choose different textures for positive and negative objects, you'll get a nice effect that your boolean is different from inside

VickyM72 In reply to RandomSearcher [2010-04-03 14:51:01 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! Yes indeed, but I just wanted to get people familiar with "cutting" for now.
π: 0 β©: 1
RandomSearcher In reply to VickyM72 [2010-04-03 15:05:40 +0000 UTC]
yeah, cutting is tricky in Bryce. Sometimes it just works wrong And I find it strange that I can cut terrains, but I can't cut trees...

VickyM72 In reply to RandomSearcher [2010-04-03 15:13:04 +0000 UTC]
There's always something I can add or do better in my tutorials, but I like to aim mostly at people just beginning with the program. I remember when I first started using Bryce, most tuts I came across were advanced and confusing, so I like to keep them detailed yet simple at the same time. Stop by my Bryce chatroom if you have some time! [link]

I will, I will, but I'm a slow typer
I remember I was lucky to find Bryce original manual very soon after I started with Bryce. It was too large, so I just read a couple of chapters, but it helped alot
