Description Almost all of us are testing Windows 8 Consumer Preview build but many of us are not happy with the removal of start menu and start button.

Microsoft is forcing us to use new Start Screen and is not providing any option to disable Start Screen and get start menu back.

Also the power options such as restart, shut down are hidden in Settings charm.

I have posted an article at AskVG.com which provides some suggestions and mockups of Settings which can be implemented in Windows 8 RTM to make all Windows 8 users happy.

Interested people can read the details and full information about these mockups at following link:

Yes!...those settings are just what we need. I've been pushing and suggesting that Microsoft implement some function to toggle between the start screen and start menu for some time now.

You could basically do it in the dev preview for Windows 8 through a registry - bah (also, I wish dA had a edit feature for comments).

True. Microsoft disabled all working hacks in Windows 8 CP.

Yep I thought of this when I found out they had a different type of menu, I was thinking how come they dont have a classic type and a new type kinda like how vista has the old popup menu like Windows 95, 98, ME, and XP like.
Maybe they need to come out with all sorts of start menus that people like or used from before plus the new one for those who like the newer one better.

I think one startmenu would be enough. But none is fail. Btw anything new about your project?

Nothing, ive been play games online and playing with my son he's out of school for spring break, I have talked to ERMaCDR about the cad screen for XP the Win 8 version he gave me shsxs.dll and said most of the logon stuff is in there and he couldnt extract it, and that's been like a month or 2 ago. And I don't got Windows 8 to see how the real cad functions like I had Windows vista and 7 to mimic it's styles.

I totally agree! Why can't MS implement this kind of stuff... I hope they make the Start Screen/others new to Win8 OPTIONAL...
