Can I use the same format for chakrams? By the way, how long did this all take you? Do you think I could accomplish this in 2 months? or less?

Each keyblade took about a month, sometimes two weeks. and yes this tutorial can be used to chakrams, just follow the steps xD it might be easier to make chakrams out of insulation foam, because theyre much fatter and bigger than keyblades but give it a try xD

okay. Thank you! Is insulation foam as stable as wood? I've never seen it or used it before... so... ? By the way, if I haven't mentioned already, the keyblades are awesome! They look very real!

it is not as stable as wood, sadly, i was just suggesting, that because its cheaper and easier and chakrams i would believe, would be fairly difficult to replicate accurately.
thanks for the complement and good luck!

thank you! You're welcome! I found a video tutorial online, I think I'll go for that, but I need a very deadly and scary equipment. So... I'd like to see how that turns out. Thank you for commenting back!

I've just hit a snag rather early on. I'm up to the part where on your tutorial it says that I should just simply rub the pencil markings onto the wood. I've been rubbing for about 5 minutes to the point where I grazed my finger (I know right :3) and there's no markings on the wood.
I've used a 5b Builders pencil to make the tracing thicker, and before I attempted to transfer it to the wood I went over the tracing again.
Any ideas?

hmm
dont use your finger, use a fingernail or a scratch object that wont rip the paper make heavy heavy lines. ones some lines are on the wood, you can draw on the wood again and reference the original picture to make sure the drawing on the wood is accurate and ready to go

Dude, may I ask where you got the massive reference picture that you used to trace, for the Two across Keyblade?

How much did all this cost? It looks expensive and dangerous :S Also, how long did it take you to make them?

if i work for half a day, everyday, minimum time is 2 weeks. working on and off will take you a month.
the materials including wood, tools, safety equip, good quality paints, and accesories can total to about $170-250. however it is an investment, because once you have all the tools, all you need to do is buy more wood and you can make more props /keyblades if youd like.

I am very amazed at the craftsmanship of these keyblades I have been inspired to make my own from viewing your work, I have just one question though. How much does it cost to make them (disregarding the cost of power tools)?
š: 0 ā©: 1
vvmasterdrfan In reply to Et-chan [2011-02-21 23:48:48 +0000 UTC]
hmm.. well the wood isnt too expensive. probably like $3-5 for one sheet. the googles the same $3-5. the paint brush, primer and paint was like $25. super glue $5, metal wire $3.
probably a max amount of $45 not including powertools. but once you buy all the stuff, you can make more than one keyblade for much cheaper

Also, where do you get your keyblade images? I can't find one that I can resize without it getting distorted beyond recognition.
š: 0 ā©: 0
Det-Conan In reply to ??? [2011-02-02 15:39:25 +0000 UTC]
I'm a little confused when you talk about tracing the picture. Do you trace it on the paper directly on your screen, or do you use a tablet to do it in photoshop?
š: 0 ā©: 1
vvmasterdrfan In reply to Det-Conan [2011-02-02 19:07:54 +0000 UTC]
literally place the paper on the screen to trace.
and you get the keyblade image from google. it is ok if it gets distorted on your screen because you are tracing it anyways, the lines you draw on the paper need to be accurate and not distorted, so you kind of have to imagine what it really looks like, while using the crappy google image to trace just as a guide to help you get the proportions correct. the detailing is all up to you.
