Description Illustrated for Karalora [link] [link] who not only leaves a comment on every story (and image!) update, but she also manages to help me see my own work in a new light.

A scene from "Threads of Fate", the fourth story in my Avatar: The Last Airbender fan-fiction series found at [link]

Excerpt from "Thread of Fate"
(chapter 7 - Threads)

The Shadows hovered hungrily over Zuko’s prone body, gleefully relishing the pain and anguish they had caused, and savoring their victory. But their triumph was short-lived as a far more powerful spirit entered the grove. The wraiths cringed against the onslaught of brilliance that emanated from it, before shrieking in terror as they fled the scene.

Delicate cloven hooves stepped lightly toward the fallen prince, the flickering flames that ringed them leaving not so much as a withering on the faded grass. Zuko stirred with a groan as warmth and life returned to his limbs, and slowly, painfully, he pushed himself up to a kneeling position and looked at his rescuer. His good eye flew wide as he gasped, frozen in awe at the creature that stood before him.

I admit I had the greatest trouble imagining that creature.

Wow, this is awesome--you should so do Kiwa next, when she's talking to Zuko.

I love it! The best thing by far is the design of the beast, combining aspects of both a ch'i-lin and a Western unicorn. It goes very well with the dragons in the Avatar world, which also have a somewhat hybridized design.

I also like the scenery, with swatches of texture rather than well-defined objects--very surreal and appropriate to the Spirit World. Good job including the dancing cranes as points of interest in the background without making them distract from the main focus of the picture.

again. This is a great prize!

I'm thrilled that you like it. This scene was very clear in my mind when i wrote it, and has always been one of my favorite moments from the series. So I was tickled pink when you asked for it because i wasn't ambitious enough to do it for myself (i tried and gave up once before).

The finished cranes (sadly) are nowhere near as magnificent as the original drawing because they had be reduced in size and then toned down for the background. So i think i may do a stand alone piece of just those in a different rendering style and upload it into my general gallery at some point in the future.
