Description Wow, finally a clay tutorial! The first thing that was on my to-do list that I've actually completed. @__@ I know you guys have been asking for a tutorial for a while, so now you may know the secrets to how I make clay figurines, haha.

Why a llama? Well when I made my ones I realised that they were quite simple to make, and since a few of you guys (my watchers) had asked for a tutorial, I figured that a llama was a good way to go, easy and very deviantart-y.

Why foil? It makes your figurine lighter, faster to bake and you use less clay.

Clarification: To soften clay you can work it with your fingers, like massage it etc.

Remember, the tutorial goes from left to right, not down. n_n;
I hope you guys find this useful! It really could be used to any animal. This is the technique I use for ALL of my clay creations, so yeah, just adapt it to your needs.

Other Tutorials (including how to make a cape for your llama):

Here are some of my deviations showing them completed!

Can't wait to see your llamas! Please show me what you do! If you do give me a link, I'll post it here so others can admire your llamas too!

Does the Foil help prevent cracks in baking them? When my art teacher and I worked with clay she had always made me make all the edges a bit thick to prevent cracking.

I made one! I made an albino llama! It was originally gonna be a super albino llama but the red clay that i got was old and when it broke off it crumbled into bits. -.- Well, anyways, I'm going to send you a link once I take a photo of it. ^^

Ooh, cool! Sounds awesome! It sucks that the red clay kind of died.. >_<

yeah..i hate when that happens. what a waste of $7.

yingmakes In reply to BuffyKitten [2011-01-16 23:02:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.. I only use large $22 blocks from this art store, but if I don't use it for ages/leave it out in the open air for too long it's gets hard, crumbly, and super annoying to use.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BuffyKitten In reply to yingmakes [2011-01-16 23:07:19 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I had just bought mine from the store and opened it the same day I bought it! And it was already crumbling!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yingmakes In reply to BuffyKitten [2011-01-16 23:10:51 +0000 UTC]

Take it back for a refund! That's what happened to me with one of my $22 blocks.. they normally last me months so I couldn't keep with it for 3 months, so I took it back. Great thing is is that I already managed to make one figurine before I gave up.. but they still accepted the block, haha. Free figurine.
