History:

Suffolk class was designed for medium range exploring and survey of uncharted systems. It was specific ship designed for exploration while combat capabilities were placed on second place, however it was capable to defend itself if needed. Suffolk was favorite to its crews because of been reliable and comfortable ship, with enough off-duty activities that make crew relax even after hard and long shifts.

Class was also famous for its exploration performances but also for its unique capabilitiy, landing on planet surface. It was largest Starfleet ship that could do that, Nebula class will also recieve this landing possibility (in 2381 and only few of them). Twelve ships were between 2358-2362, eight survive the Dominion war. Ship continue to proudly serve as exploration ship.
Each of twelve ships had some story and history, however eight survivors have the most. USS Suffolk was first to encounter Tidiirians, mystic species that lurked for years on the border with Federation. USS Talbot saved crew of the destroyed USS Cordova, crew survived one hundred twenty two harash day on planetoid where they crash before been saved. USS Prince of Wales fought and with help of several other ships manage to destroy one of Dominion dreadnought, ship was so damaged that Starfleet planned to retire her, however due her long history she was repaired and remain in service till 2382 when she was retired and replaced with new Sovereign class ship, USS Prince of Wales NCC-1965-D, fourth to bear the proud name.
USS Antwerpen was probably famous for its heroic defense of USS Titan in 2384, when Titan was cornered by two Odonan battlecruisers, saving ship, captain Riker and his crew from death. USS Blackpool, this ship saw more combat then any other of its class, it survived Dominion war with record eighteen destroyed enemy ships, it was retired in 2382 and newly built Akira class ship was named Blackpool.

It is also worth to mention USS Liverpool, ship that saved Enterprise E from destruction during last part of the Dominion war, It place itself in path of enemy battleship which fired barage of polaron torpedoes to heavily damaged Enterprise (which was overhelm by enemy numbers), already damaged Liverpool was unable to survive the constant polaron barage and was finally destroyed, but its sacrifice allow Enterprise and two additional ships to escape. In 2379 USS Liverpool was launched, as new Sovereign class ship.

Remaining ships were to be retired by the 2392, but by then they remain in service and doing for what they were made, exploring.
