Note that this tutorial expects you to have atleast basic knowledge of the program

Also note that I do use a tablet, the same look won't be achieved with a mouse

Oh another good reason to have a big canvas is it's easier to fill in your base colors afterwards, you can just paint bucket it =7=

I had a few people ask how I lineart and well..I'm not really sure how to explain/teach it besides telling you my settings and I guess my canvas size and what not to do hahaha. So here's how I basically lineart, not how you should lineart but how I lineart..ahaha

Hope whoever finds it useful, feel free to ask questions because this is full of holes and mistakes somewhere I'm sure :'D

If you adjusted your settings and your stabilizer and it still isn't smooth it's just the way you're making your strokes, it can take some time to be used to making a clean lineart. Just like inking in real life with a pen or painting with a paint brush, the program won't do all the work for you, after using it for awhile you'll slowly adjust to it and get better =]

zearyu In reply to Pinkcatstar [2011-08-02 07:36:18 +0000 UTC]

doesn't go slow? xD I don't know what that means. You can set it to the highest possible setting, I decide not to though since I don't need it

Stabalizer makes the strokes go slow or fast! when it goes slow it helps the smooth..i heard something like that

Ohh yeah it goes slow because it's 'loading' so it kind of lags to put it in better words Lol

I can't seem to get the lines all...thick and thin. Like the pressure. I followed everything for the pain and pen tool- but it STILL won't go right. I copied everything exactly the same. Help?

zearyu In reply to FireOfBlades [2011-08-02 00:01:19 +0000 UTC]

If your tablet is working as it should be and all your settings are like what I've shown then it's just how you're drawing the line, it won't go thick to thin completely on it's own. A good amount relies on your own strokes as well. Imagine it like a paint brush, and that's all the advice I can give pretty much. If it's your tablet's fault I wouldn't know as I'm not a tech guy xD

Oh. I used the pen everyway possible in every direction and pushed as hard and as light as I could. ._. My friend's tablet let me do it, but I can't seem to. I'll print screen it? Tell me if anything looks wrong

Uh you're pretty zoomed out very far from your canvas lol, if the canvas is that big I would use a size 14 brush or something. Also your minimum size is set to 50%, mine is set to 0% so smallest it can go is nothing. for you smallest it can go is well half the size

Uhh yeah I can't tell if it worked for you but if your settings are the same as mine and we assume you're stroking it correctly then that's all I can help with =]

do you do it with a tablet? i dont have one so i use a mouse... :I not even my right hand can resolve the problem of the strokes being so not perfect

zearyu In reply to Mearu-Chan [2011-07-23 22:47:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes I do use a tablet =]I don't believe the same look can be accomplished with a mouse. I'd recommend to get yourself a tablet! A decent one by Bamboo costs only 40 dollars

Yay a tutorial~ Just what I was looking for |D

Except, my lines don't do that D: They aren't like...at a point on the end. They're just...square. Or something.

I think it has to do with pen pressure...I have no idea how to work my tablet except to like, basically draw on it. Rawrgh >////<
It's a DigiPro 4"x3" Drawing Tablet. At least that's what it says on the box >//<

Meep.

But this was really helpful anyway, thanks

zearyu In reply to BluehTheOtaku [2011-07-19 00:32:33 +0000 UTC]

square like..actual square? sounds like you're using paint xD if you're using SAI and your lines don't go thin to thick and then thin again it could just be your strokes. It can take awhile to get used to drawing on the tablet since the first time I used it I couldn't get the thin to thick.

I don't know how to work a tablet besides draw on it either haha, I never adjusted any settings on my programs or my tablet, I just plugged it in got my program and used it haha. I don't believe tablets make a huge difference, my first tablet was a bamboo, the cheapest one and even that tablet works fine with making the thin to thick strokes =]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BluehTheOtaku In reply to zearyu [2011-07-19 00:35:46 +0000 UTC]

Well not actual square, I don't knowwwwwww~
Yea, I suppose I should just mess with it and practice a bit more, then I'll get it someday, haha.
Maybe I should Google it or something, I don't know. XD

Thanks!

This helped alot, but my stabilizer doesnt work with my tablet. Im sure its pressure sensitive etc, what could I be doing wrong? ;-;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zearyu In reply to Cindacry [2011-07-16 21:09:32 +0000 UTC]

It should work, higher the number you choose more it smooths your your lines. If you use 1 compared to S10 you'd see a big difference when you draw a line. If it really doesn't work then sorry I can't help you there as I'm not a computer tech =[

how do you erase the sketch (I have a problem with that D: )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zearyu In reply to LuckY2mE [2011-07-16 21:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Your sketch and lineart should have their own layers. Sketch on one layer lineart on a layer on top of it. That way you can hide or delete the sketch without affecting other things

LuckY2mE In reply to zearyu [2011-07-17 03:23:12 +0000 UTC]

I still don't understand... how can we create a different layer? I'm still a beginner...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zearyu In reply to LuckY2mE [2011-07-17 03:35:30 +0000 UTC]

You can go to layer>new layer to make a new layer. I suggest finding a tutorial on the basics as I don't go through those assuming my readers will know atleast that much =] there's many out there starting from the very beginning

*Crys while staring in awe*
Y-you don't use the curve button? That just makes you so pro...and how is your lineart SO CLEAN!? I guess that means i need to practice more with the tablet, but my lines always turn out so...shaky. >.<
So after you finish the drawing, do you resize the ENTIRE thing? Wow, I need to learn how to do that...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zearyu In reply to LeiteDestiny [2011-06-26 22:01:02 +0000 UTC]

Curve makes it look too stark in my opinion haha. After just showing people my settings the rest is on how comfortable you are with it I believe because I just..do it Lol :'D

And yup I resize the entire image. save it as a jpg or png, open it in photoshop and then go to image>image size and choose a smaller size xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LeiteDestiny In reply to zearyu [2011-06-26 23:23:35 +0000 UTC]

That's true, the curve can look a bit odd.
I think I messed up my settings, they seem to be different than yours...*goes to change them*

Is that after you color them? Probably after you color it, right? Thank you for the advice!!
