Hey great tutorial! Three questions (sorry):
1) What is your brush 'spread' when doing the lineart?
2) You use bright pale yellow on overlay for the highlights. Does this bright yellow look funny on darker base colors (like blue or grey)? Or do you change the color for different fakemon base colors?
Last one, I promise.
3) Do you ever add texture to your Fakemon? If so, specific brushes? Template?
Thank you!!

1) I don't use brush spread for my linearts now. I used to before and the setting was at 40.
2) It really shouldn't affect darker base colors much, but if you feel like it should be a different color then you may do that.
3) And nope, I don't add textures. If I ever do add textures, it would probably be for like special effects like fire, aura, etc.

I suck badly at doing line art with a mouse and don't have a tablet. Any suggestions?

In Paint Tool SAI, you can work with Linework layers. Using the Pen tool you can just make your lines and then by holding the Control button, you click and drag the parts of the lineart to smooth it out or adjust.
Here's a video tutorial about it: youtu.be/zoXhgBASONg

What is the importance of Step 5? I have no idea what clipping layers is or does, when I color stuff in I just magic wand the lineart and create a layer under it and fill with a very large brush. Now I feel like I've been doing things wrong.

This is just my way of coloring because for me it's faster. But it's still fine to select with the wand tool and brush it in that way.

I'm guessing for the shading you don't use the dodge and burn tools right? Shading is tough because I have to use a mouse and the brush is round.

Oh my god thank you so much! I was wondering how you were rendering the same variations in the colouring process of normal Pokémon to your Fakemon. Awesome!
