Great tutorial but I have a question. I have no idea if it was asked already but I dont want to look through over 5 pages of comments to find out Did you use a drawing tablet to do the photo or did u use your mouse? also, i have another question. when i draw lines on photoshop they always look choppy and pixelated unlike the outilne u drew for your starting photo. what settings do you have your brush on to do that? thanks if you respond, its ok if you dont tho

tablet I use a Wacom, sorry I should have mentioned it in the picture description.
if you are using a mouse the pixellation may arise from physical jittering... I find that Photoshop isn't the best software for getting smooth lines, even with a tablet, and I often move into Painter to do things that require smooth lines like hair and stuff. If you move your mouse in swooping, quick movements perhaps it will help? I have my Brush settings on Opacity: Pen Pressure, spacing 10%

hmm, I suspect that perhaps your image size may have something to do with it.. what sort of resolution do you use? give me an example of widthxlength and at what dpi... fortunately for me I got Painter for free from the company that makes it, I'm not sure how you can get it without paying for it otherwise

JennuYasha In reply to acidlullaby [2008-04-15 02:34:03 +0000 UTC]

lol i honestly dont even kno where to find dpi but i usually use around 1000 pixels width and length. also i use probely the oldest photoshop ever, elements, its the only one i could get cus it was free . i dont have the money for a good one at the moment. so my program probebly limits me a lot to what i am able to do..mayb? lol.

interesting, I don't really know what the problem is, I use Photoshop elements on my laptop because it's quite a light program and doesn't jam up the system and I've been able to use it fine. it's probably just your tablet and brush settings or something, sorry I can't be of more help

This is a very nice thing to do from your part, putting together such detailed tutorial. I have bought I don't know how many magazines trying to find a clear way to do all that stuff and you solved my problems in one go. Thank you very much.

Did you use a tablet? What if you don't have one? What would you recommend (apart from getting one)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

acidlullaby In reply to WolverinePriestess [2008-03-24 17:15:56 +0000 UTC]

you can use a mouse too, with fade settings and low opacity settings, but it's tedious
